So is LOST wearing everyone else out as much as it is me?
Can it pull out of the dull slope it seems to be heading down?
Do you think the final answers will ever live up to the anticipation?
What is it about this latest batch of episodes that seems so weak compared to the last two Seasons?

if this thread is still about LOST...
Until this season, my little LOSTies group has just waited for the DVDs to come out and had a marathon. But this season, we decided to actually follow it week-by-week. I was looking forward to being able to talk about it for once instead of having to avoid this thread... but maybe LOST is too old and nobody cares (or apparently is being taken over by thoughts about Glee? Go start a Glee thread! sheesh ;). However, Cap did mention it on the front page, so... By the way, I'm assuming being in this thread means you're caught up, so consider yourself warned about SERIOUS SPOILERS.So, I'm enjoying the new season. Even though it's opening up multiple cans of worms, not answering old questions, and seems to be focusing on action more than further character development, I still love it. For one, I like the puzzle-solving aspects of it. The "alternate reality" story is fascinating, and I think it might be where most of the character development we're looking for happens this season - who are these people, deep down? Are they really different at the core, if they had never gone through the crash and everything else?Sayid's "infection" has me really puzzled. At first I thought maybe Jacob had come back in Sayid, a la Smoke Monster/Locke, but I doubt that's the case. Someone last year in this thread (Red? I only skimmed past posts, for once) suggested that Jacob might have intended to die. That's my guess, as well. I don't think we've seen the last of him. Jacob knew about the loophole, and he's done his best to bring everyone to the island to complete a plan - make something happen - to "win?"I love watching it unfold... I just hate the week-long wait (that was the benefit of DVDs).I think the makers of the show will pull it off, and wrap it up really well. They've certainly had enough time to plan. As long as they don't bring in aliens at the end as an explanation... if they do that, I'm going to be really disappointed. ;)

Back to LOST
For the record, and I'll post it there too, I agree 100% with Jake's comments on what is killing the forum. I love you guys, but man, please don't troll. Definition: posting controversial, inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community. D&T, if you don't like LOST, why on earth are you even opening this thread?? :) We get it dude, you don't like it.Now, back to LOST. I agree, it's a very intriguing season. I found myself frustrated and nearly bored during the actual shows, but obsessively talking about them afterwards (more the first two than last week). I can honestly say I have no idea what's going on...and I felt like I understood more before this season even started. I can say for certain that I am back on the Jack bandwagon (way to go asking questions and challenging the "other" regime) and SO incredibly OVER Kate! She might be the most selfish character I've ever seen. As far as theories go, well, I've been obsessing over that too. I think that Ben and Widmore are "linked" to each other in a similar fashion as Jacob and Smoke Monster Man. I think the river is related to this since Ben was healed in at as a child (and maybe we'll discover Widmore was too) and perhaps something similar is now occuring with Sayid (and Clare?). It's not completely hammered out in my head, but it just seems that Ben and Widmore have similar "rules" and the frequently used comment that "all the good in him will be gone" in relation to the healing river makes me suspicious. We'll see...Glad it's on tonight!! :)
Not exactly sure what you
Not exactly sure what you mean by "frustrated and nearly bored," LRD. I thoroughly enjoyed both the first episode this season (I know, I am in the minority on this), and especially last night's Locke-centric episode. We shall not speak about the previous episode with Kate. :)The cave of numbers reveal at the end (and all the Indiana Jones-esque action that led to it) had me on the edge of my seat. I'll be curious to see how/if they explicitly tie this all to the Valenzetti Equation from the AR game from a couple of years ago. Also, who was that creepy-ass kid in the jungle? Why was Kate's name not next to one of the numbers in the cave? Why does Jacob's nemesis need Sawyer to get off the island? These are the kind of questions that keep me coming back!
Agreed.
The first FIVE minutes of last night's episode was better than Kate's episode the week before. Ugh. I'm more frustrated than bored, although again, the Kate episode was terrible. All the things you mentioned keep me coming back and the jury is definitely still out until the whole thing ends. Obviously if they tie it up (even if they only satisfy about 70% of my questions), then it will go down as one of the greatest shows ever. And I do believe they can do it. *fingers crossed*SPOILERSI think the creepy-ass kid in the jungle was Jacob as a kid. Just my thought, I don't listen to podcasts or read anything. Kate's name was mysteriously and obviously missing...but then again, they only pointed out five names to us and there are six numbers. Hmmm?I am currently WAY more interested in the Locke/Sawyer/Richard/Sun, etc. story line than what is going on at the temple. I don't really care about new characters right now and I feel like the old characters/actors at the temple are so tired it's coming across in the story. Even they are saying lines like, "not this again." :)
i find it insane that the
i find it insane that the entire series weve thought that Locke was connecting to Jacoband the island but now ALL those things were just smoke monster man he said something about how jacob ruined there lives and drove them to crashing on the island, and how terrible it was that he did that. when he drove locke to death! what a hypocrit!
Only guesses here
SPOILERS ALLFascinating, Alexs and Red. Just randomly responding... I noticed Kate missing from the ceiling too, but you're right - they didn't show all the numbers either. And I completely agree that the kid is a young Jacob - confirmed in the "rules" conversation. I agree that there is a parallel with Jacob/"Smokie" and Widmore/Ben (Widmore talks about a coming war, as well...), but does that mean that Widmore is good and Ben is bad? I think Ben is bad, but I'm not sure Widmore is much better.I'll have to think about the river thing - I didn't pick it up as a connecting factor at all. Do you think the river feeds the pool in the temple, and what was the significance of its cloudiness? (I thought it was cloudy because Jacob died.) The claimed/infected thing happened of course with Danielle's teammates (who went to the temple), and yes, I think with Claire (they teased us with that in her meeting with Jin and then didn't touch it at all in the most recent episode!). Although I wonder about the relationship between Christian - who I suspect was Smokie, just like all other dead people on the island - and Claire, as they appeared at the Shack together...I'm enjoying the Alternate Universe as well. I know what you mean about Kate - I've always had a soft spot for her, but she is selfish. However, the AU shows her changing course to help Claire, right? (And back at the temple, I think Jack is just so tired and unimpressed by everyone trying to exert control that he's more than willing to defy the Others.)P.S. For some reason, the scene with Sawyer and Smokie-Locke at the cliff felt to me like a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Book:"Do you...
;)
Sorry guys...
In an effort to redeem myself, I found this youtube video's while watching the abridged series...I think it has some LOST references in here and I thought that it would fit with this forum...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miGSWJUDhSc&feature=channel
Redeemed
That's very sweet of you to make a peace offering Animal. It's really okay if you don't like the show, I didn't mean to be harsh. Was referring more to the page of ridiculous tangents. Not too much into pokemon, so I'm sure this would be funnier if I was. But consider yourself redeemed. :)
Not to worry
Red's right, Animal - you have nothing to worry about with your comments, which were on-topic, and simply giving your opinion (and only doing it once). Thanks for the link - I didn't get through the parody, but I did laugh at the LOST music superimposed on the cartoon scenes at the beginning. ;)
Stuff
I'm operating on little sleep, so I'm going to try to type coherent sentences here. WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON? I'm so confused, and loving it. I have put full faith in the writers, so I'm not second guessing. Just excited to be along for the ride.Kate is being a whiny turd. But she does have a good heart, despite all of that. I hope that she gets to have redemption and be the awesome character that I loved from the first several seasons. I forgot all about Widmore! And what is Sun's connection to Widmore? Remember when she met with him? What's going on there?I think the creepy blonde kid might be Aaron. I didn't know if Jacob would have bloody hands...that was my one concern with that. Why does Aaron have bloody hands? No idea. But maybe he's kind of like Walt, where he can spring up all over.I thought at first that the names in the cave were all guys, and that's why Kate wasn't present (if Kwon refers to Jin, not Sun). But then I saw some screen captures and a list of all the names, and there are some girl names on there, like Burke (Juliet), Rousseau (Danielle or Alex) and Lewis (Charlotte). Candidates for WHAT?I love it. I'm pumped. LOST is awesome.
I think the kid was
I think the kid was somehow Jacob. There was some "recognition" in Smokey's eyes and everything about the kid (not just the blond hair.. his face even) reminded me of adult Jacob. Maybe it's all in my head.. I didn't like last week's episode, but this weeks was awesome. Best. Eulogy. EVER. NickelCrew.net
demasiadas preguntas
Yeah, Kate is being obnoxious, but as I said, she still did the right thing in the Alternate LA with Claire, so I'm hoping she'll come around.Re: Widmore and Sun - I thought she tracked him down because it was his freighter that (she thought) blew up Jin - plus her dad had connections with Widmore, remember?I didn't think about the kid being Aaron, but I don't know if that really works with any of the timelines. I still think he's Jacob, for the reasons I mentioned on the last page, and the ones you mention, Ronin.Re: the names in the cave - what if Kwon is referring to Ji Yeon (their baby)? I don't think it's plausible, but it did occur to me as one more possibility. And remember when Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley were kidnapped by the others? They were on a list that supposedly came from Jacob - the "good ones." This ties into the cave names... Buffs, I take ityou don't buy Smokie's explanation that they're candidates to become the next caretaker of the island? (Hm... Jack Shephard... spelled differently, but still - a shepherd for the group, and for the island... just thinking out loud.)I agree - I was speechless when I heard that eulogy. I hope I will never be able to say those same words!Still loving it... keep it coming - tomorrow!
I'm Sad. :(
Okay, I can't pretend anymore, I'm really not happy with LOST this season. I've been trying, really I have, but it's getting ridiculous. Thinking back on the past five seasons I don't even understand how this season is even related. The growth of the characters that crashed in the plane, the "others" (the ones we ALREADY knew, not this stupid new bunch we don't care about), Ben and Whidmore, Desmond and Penny, Dharma (remember that?)...COME ON!!I just don't understand what they're doing. I kind of think Jacob is a condescending jerk, so I hope he's not supposed to be this all knowing good spiritual force. Smoke Locke is obnoxious, although probably the only fascinating person right now. And why can't anyone talk like normal people and, oh I don't know, ASK SOME FREAKING FOLLOW UP QUESTIONS!Also, what's with character disappearances? I mean seriously, Kate covered the whole island and then made it back to the temple and Richard still hasn't shown up anywhere? Speaking of the temple, as my new blog hero pointed out, apparently the temple isn't so "hidden" anymore. Everyone just comes and goes through the front door whenever they want.Sorry for my rant. I just feel like everything I've cared about and loved over the last five seasons has not made an appearance in these first six episodes. I still hope the writers can prove me wrong, but I'm not as convinced as I used to be.
Catching up -
Had to take a Tue night hiatus the last few weeks, so I caught up on three episodes between Sunday and Tuesday. All I can say is... What?!Widmore's arrival certainly complicates things and maybe challenges Smoke-Locke's hold, but I can't see anything else has been clarified in the meantime. The flashback episode for Richard was interesting, brought a little more background to Jacob and Smoke, but nothing's clarified. Can we trust Claire's new-found remorse? Or is she beyond the point of no return? And just how far apart are Smoke-Locke's group and Ben's group? They can't be that far away from each other...I'll keep watching, because I have to know how it ends, but I can't see I'm excited at this point for each new episode... sigh.
FINALLY!
Well, LOST gave me goosebumps last night. I should have known it would be a Desmond episode to renew my love for this show. He and Daniel Farraday are just magic to me. I find both their characters so compelling. I almost dread the return next week of crazy Claire and nutso Sayid, and everything else the writers have destroyed for me, but for beautiful moment last night, I remembered why I love this show so much.Faith has been at least temporarily restored. I see where they might be going and I like it.And if you want some light shed on where they might be going, you could watch this episode of Fringe. Credit goes to Daniel for finding it, and I think he's really on to something.
Happily Ever After
I feel similarly to you, Red: last night was a significant improvement on the last couple of weeks. Desmond is a great character, and I enjoyed the explorations they did in Alternate LA with him (as I have with the other alternate stories). I also enjoyed that there were real connections between Islanders again in Alternate LA - they had strayed away from that in the last few episodes, where the characters were fairly disconnected from other Island people. What I thought was really cool - spoilers - was their use of Desmond's unique ability to be a "crossover" between the Island and A/LA. That was so intriguing! Not to mention the fact that two other characters are somewhat aware of this "other life," and another (Eloise) seems to have a complete - if undisclosed - grasp of it. When Daniel started talking about equations and cataclysmic events, and Des indicated he was going to round up the 815 passengers, I began to wonder if in fact the A/LA folks will do something to re-integrate the two universes, or cause the A/LA to cease to exist, "correct the timeline," etc (multiverse and retcon get so confusing)...Can't wait to see what happens next! I did try to peek at the link, but of course Hulu doesn't like computers outside the US, so I'll take a look at the episode another time. I watched a little of the Fringe, but never really got into it.Anyway - five episodes to go! I'm excited to see how it will wrap up... and have mixed feelings about the End being so near.
