There has much controvery at my school about which is better; xbox 360 250G or playstation3. I have only played xbox so it would make me kind of biased so you decide which is better.
Comments:
PLAYSTATION ALL THE WAY!!!!
Playstation doesn't get the Red Ring of death, has free internet, and plays blu-ray.Xbox gets the Red ring of death, you have to pay for internet, (I'm pretty sure it) doesn't play Blu-Ray. But it has Halo. that makes it a wii bit better. (see what I did there? wii ? another game system? yeah I know it's a bad joke.)
Depends...
In terms of capabilities (e.g Blu-Ray) the Playstation 3 is superior.Graphic wise, the Playstation 3 has better graphics (it has a more powerful processor). Most games can be bought on both systems so they're tied there. When it comes to online experience, the XBox 360 is the better system (It is important to note the the PS3 has free online whereas you have to pay about $60 a year for the 360).In terms of sales, the XBox 360 has outsold the PS3 As you can see, both have their strenghts and weaknesses. So this all comes down to what you describe as "better." If you want to go by functionality, then the PS3 is better. In terms of sales and online community, then the XBox 360 is better.
True...
The PS3's internet does break down occasionaly, (well, I sometimes lose connection with online matches) and I have heard the Xbox's is a lot better. Sorry, if I was a little bias back there.
The PS3 may have better
The PS3 may have better hardware, but my experience is... The playstation network can be slow and or intermittent. If you don't play for a few days, you get clobbered with either a game or a system update. System updates are not optional as you lose access to the psn. Updates do not happen in the background, or automatically unless you pay. Despite having a film and music library of their own, neither are built in. Although the ps3 should be a media hub, the software is crap compared with free and older software. Sony have taken an antagonistic approach to hackers which has resulted in normal ps3 owners having to put up with regular "security" updates but also denied the benefits of a creative and skilled user community. Transcending the Arse of Reason in time for last orders
I see
I see your reasoning.
Looks like Sony went
Looks like Sony went overboard with their security
This might sound a bit silly
This might sound a bit silly as virtually no one brings this up and maybe it might just be me however:Not counting the reasons why i grown to like the Xbox (Fable for example). There is one thing that really and i mean REALLY made me choose it over PS3... The controller. I don't know why, maybe I just have a bad hand but back when i didn't have experience with neither, I found the xbox controller a lot easied, while the PS3 controller was just painful. I think its either becuase the xbox one has a stronger, heavier body and you can grab on to it more comfortably or simply because it gives my usually streched forward typing thumb on the left a more comfortable postion over the analog while on the PS3 i have to bend it back a little all the time which is very unusual for my non-mouse, no-writing hand.I think its completely up to your preferances but here, I gave what i thought to be a big part of my choice. As silly it may be. Ather lenoro' sharanteh! (Ather's light guide us!)"Food for thought!"
Same thing with PS3!
Whenever I play on Xbox, the controller is always goofy in my hands, (Probably 'cause I'm used to playstation's controller) so you're not really alone on this one Ictiv.
I, personally, am a fan of
I, personally, am a fan of the PlayStation controller. That's the controller that I grew up on. However, I'd say that both controllers are essentially the same. I'm pretty sure that the XBox controller based it's design off of the Playstation
Well yeah, there's little
Well yeah, there's little doubt to them being related. Also I agree that what you got used to is more charming in a way, as i myself as i wrote got used to having my left thumb stretched...Also, though I don't consider myself a xbox defender nor a ps hater, on the topic of PS3 playing blue-ray: That's kind of un fair. I mean just because you bought an xbox doesn't mean you can't buy a blue-ray player. Perhaps you already had one, or you don't even want one due to the fact that most improvments compared to the dvd are too smooth to even notice most of the time. So yeah, its a great adition to a product but not exactly on-topic at a gaming console. Ather lenoro' sharanteh! (Ather's light guide us!)"Food for thought!"
i agree
I agree Ictiv. I to believe that the xbox controller is better and easier to use than the PS3 controller.
While we're talking about
While we're talking about controllers, is there really a difference between them? I mean, the XBox controller is larger, but they look and perform the exact same way
Well sure, the looks and
Well sure, the looks and performance is the same (heck if one of them wouldn't preform the same way the other does then this debate would hve been over the moment the first guy picked it in his hands). But when exactly do you 'look' on them? Actually what is important at a handheld controller is the comfort, which again differs from customer to customer. You for one, as you said find the ps3 controller easier, as I'm sure many old school gamers who used to play with the NES's flat controller aslo do and its feels right in your hand. How ever others prefer the xbox controller. I know 'Im just repeating my self on this but this is all its about and in my opinion this is exactly what is important about a contoller. I doubt there is a "better" one in the two, its all up to prefenerces. Ather lenoro' sharanteh! (Ather's light guide us!)"Food for thought!"
you are right about
you are right about controllers neither are better in general becaus they are basically the same, but it's all up to preference. but what you said about blu ray earlier is just annoying, nobody who owns buys they're first HDTV isn't blown away by blu-ray. and it is perfectly fair for to have a blu-ray player and the PS3 is no longer just a gaming console, but a media station, a "Play" station.
Hehe, you just basically
Hehe, you just basically agreed with me don't you see? I've said its not fair to bring up blue ray when we compare two Gaming consoles, becasue yes it does have extras but that's not its gaming console side. You only said its not only a gaming console which is pretty much an agreement with me saying it has extras. At any rate i still say that if you have to choose between two phones with the difference that one has a gps but you already own a pocket gps chances are you might buy the gps-less one.Ather lenoro' sharanteh! (Ather's light guide us!)"Food for thought!"
No I said that PS3 isn't a
No I said that PS3 isn't a gaming console any more, it's a media console, and since it does all this stuff that isn't gaming it oes above the Xbox 360.I'ts like if you couldn't decide over an iPod touch or an iPod classic, and you saw all the apps on the touch and said that those can't be factored because it's "unfair" to argue in things that don't count as mp3s.
I don't agree with the
I don't agree with the comperison because of two reasons: One, there are quite few alternatives to the iPod touch, unlike as in the Playstation 3 where there are seperate blu-ray players out there, the iPod touch's features are pretty unique, if in nothing else quality. Second: The iPod is a handheld device made to take withyourself where ever you go therefore naturally something with a lot of bonus features IS more charming, however for a homemedia applience such extras aren't as important. (And again: We're comparing gaming consoles, so for the hundreth time the blu-ray player doesn't put it 'above' x-box it puts it just pushes it half way into a completely different category.) Ather lenoro' sharanteh! (Ather's light guide us!)"Food for thought!"
When it comes to motion
When it comes to motion gaming Playstation move kicks Wii and Kinect in the balls. Wii: only accelerometerKinect: only motion sensing cameraPS move: Motion sensing camera and accelerometer. And then kicks them in the balls again. With free internet, Blu Ray player built in and digital movie rental. So if movies to an entirely digital system as opposed to actual disks, and just stuff like Netflix, than thats where Playstation will succeed, and until then, Playstation still does Blu Ray, so it's superior today and tomorrow.
Yes but...
Yes but you must buy everything seperatly.
that is true.
that is true.
What if you already have a
What if you already have a Blu-Ray player? Then is the Playstation 3 a good idea?
Ictiv, I completely see what
Ictiv, I completely see what your saying, but your wrong! we're debating the products as whole!Animal, that is a good point, but an all in one device ultimately more useful.
In a whole i do agree
In a whole i do agree however... gah I don't want to fight over this...You're right, I only meant this whole thing in a "If we include the blu-ray then the whole question has no point since the PS3 is clearly superior in that radius." That's why I said it depends on situtation. Ather lenoro' sharanteh! (Ather's light guide us!)"Food for thought!"
So, am I the only one who
So, am I the only one who doesn't really like this whole Kinect/full body controller thing?
Nah, I'm with you on
Nah, I'm with you on that.In my opinion, full body control will be good when they invent the holo-deck. Until then... Wii will suffice. Kinect just doesn't feel right with a two dimensional screen. Ather lenoro' sharanteh! (Ather's light guide us!)"Food for thought!"
It's just slightly weird to
It's just slightly weird to me. I've been playing with controllers my whole life and this full-body controller kind of just defeats the purpose for me. Not mention the games for it aren't that great...
PS3
PS3 plays Blu-Ray! So thats my choice.

So I finally did play the XBox Kinect. It wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. The only thing I don't like is that it kind of creeps me out. Whenever we're not using it, we unplug it and turn it around. I know, I sound paranoid, but I feel like it's watching me. That being said, does anyone want to take me on in bowling?
The Kinect while you turn it
The Kinect while you turn it away: "Just what do you think you're doing, Animal? Animal, I really think I'm entitled to an answer to that question."That said, I kinda had the same relationship with my old webcam and its cold dead visor. On bowling side, best I can do is MSN (don't have Kinect myself). Ather lenoro' sharanteh! (Ather's light guide us!)"Food for thought!"
