This was a title I've been secretly avoiding for a looooong time.   Mainly because of the scale of the film.   I don't think HISHE was ready for such a movie in our early years, and to be honest, I'm so glad we waited.  It's always interesting to see a final short looking back knowing we had no script written 3 weeks prior.  That's part of what adds to the stress of production I suppose :)  But looking back, I am just sort of speechless about how this short came into existence.  So I'll try to summarize the story just so it can be told.  (this sort of negates the speechless thing, but whateva!)We scheduled Jurassic Park, it was on the list and there was no going back.  My 5 year ago self that always said "oh no you're not ready yet" was stil there, but it didn't matter now.  Time to get to work!  We watched the film again to get fresh eyes on the story, and I was absolutely stumped.  Leave it to Spielberg to create another perfect blockbuster where each scene effects the next.  It's like he knows how to make great movies or something!  jerk :)  Anyway, there were no flaws, not continuity wise anyway.   We struggled with the script, there were too many major moments in Jurassic Park to pick just one scene of focus.  Nor did we have the time or man power to create all of the joke ideas (what happened to the tropical storm?)  and we kept coming down to this moment of bringing back Samuel L. Jackson because his death is never seen, just implied.  So we had to make a choice.  What do we like better?  lots of little jokes nit picking the movie to an undetermined ending, or set up a Samuel L. Jackson return.  We couldn't create the nit picking clip show idea even if we wanted to because of scale, and the Samuel L. Jackson script made more people laugh anyway.   So we picked Jackson.I should also point out that while this is happening I'm also animating our God of War HISHE because it was due while Jurassic HISHE was in progress... so my brain is like "whaaaAAAAAAaaaaaaAAAAAAAAaaaaaaAAAAAAA!"  (that's what brains sound like)Great we've got a script, it's gonna take tons of art and oh yeah there's another feat, none of us can do a Sam L. impression!  So we posted the announcement, held auditions.  You guys sent in some great attempts, which we were extremely grateful to get.  (Thank you for trying to be there for us everyone)  But sadly none had the authenticity we really were looking for.   But it was understood.  We were asking for an extremely challenging voice.   And I was starting to think we were gonna have to voice his character on our own and just take the abuse of "worst Samuel impression ever!"   but suddenly there was one glimmer of hope right at the last second.  Adrian.  Adrian Neely, a guy I knew from my early film production years.  I vaguely remembered he sounded kind of like Jackson, but i hadn't talked or seen him in ages so who knows if he's available.  I sent him a message asking if he was interested and Tina's reaction was the best when she heard his little demo that he sent back.  "You knew this guy the whole time?!"So Adrian swooped in and saved the Jackson role literally at the last second. The rest of the story was typical production battle scars.  Just rushing to get it completed in time.  We had some difficulty deciding what should a talking raptor sound like.  It had to be a girl, but it had to sell the lines like "say hello to my little friend" and not be completely awful about it :)  Stephanie tried a few different voices, and I absolutely love the one we ran with.  Stephanie really did a great job on this one.  As did Tina with the voice of Lex.  She's only got one line, but still :)  And don't forget Bryan English who wrote all this music without even seeing the short.   Can you believe that?  He made it without seeing anything about the short! :)  unreal.  My only wish is that I sounded more like Sam Neill in this one.  But by this point we were already covered on far more important things that I had nothing to really be upset over.  Just finish the dang thing!So then it was a race to the finish line.  For real.  (one week left for animation)  Every time the video game shorts and the movie shorts collide it makes it a stressful time.  I started the usual path that happens when you animate something and watch the same thing over and over again, you start second guessing everything, did we make the right jokes, should we try to add something else... you learn to ignore that stuff. (for the most part)  The week went by, the work was finally was completed, and when I showed the final animation to Tina to proof, she laughed harder than any short I can remember her laughing at.  At that point, all the fear and worry tired efforts were worth it.  I knew we had made a good one.  Usually Tina is like me and has heard the joke a hundred times already, so for her to laugh at that point meant it was good.  At least that's what I tell myself.Who knows, this could be a huge flop of a short.  and if it is, I don't even care.  (well that's not true I actually do care)  I just meant I know how this short materialized out of thin air by the help of some amazing friends, and that is more valuable to me.  If you had seen this project completed from my perspective you would agreeSo, I hope you guys enjoyed the short.  I know to everyone else it's just a cartoon they get to watch for fun.  But this was a really long 3 weeks, and I'm a little sentimental about it right now for it.  So get over here and let me hug you you big lugz.  *awe shucks* HA!  Ok I'll stop writing now.  Hey remember Jurassic Park?!  that movie was awesome!  except Ray's death was sort of skipped over.  The End :)
