I have said in the past many times after a short, "This one nearly killed me" and Avengers took the lead in that category by a long stretch. Never in HISHE's lifetime do I remember a time where completing a short was so difficult every step of the way only to turn around and become one of if not my absolute favorite to work on. It was truly a short that when completed felt like an earned victory, which is not really wise thing to say really considering this short could be a massive failure in terms of viewership. But I felt proud when it was finished. Proud for myself as well as everyone who put their sweat into this one. So I'll try to talk about that as best I can.
We started working on Avengers at about the time the Bros Before Marios cartoon was released (as you can tell by their cameo at the end) But I don't' believe the movie had officially been released at that point so all I knew was we need Avengers characters. I just had no clue where the movie was heading. I scavenged for some last second Avengers pre screening opportunities, but everyone treated me like the plague so getting to see Avengers early was impossible. So I saw it three times as soon as it came out. Tina saw it twice. And wouldn't you know it, the movie was awesome. What are we gonna do when the movie is so locked down??? Everything that happens serves the following scene so effectively there was no "flaw" really to just grab on to that we knew the audience would agree was a weak point. All we had was "convenience" Even though the story of Avengers is wonderfully entertaining, you can argue that every solution the Avengers ever needed was handed to them right when the needed. EVERY SOLUTION. So we felt like that was the strongest angle. Now lets write jokes about that... that don't sound grouchy, or preachy, because we aren't trying to be better than the Avengers..... our brains exploded...
After collecting the brain fragments, we had a script, but continued to tweak it literally throughout the entire production (which never happens, and is completely a terrible idea) so the brain explode happened a few times actually. Many hours were spent on the phone discussing "what if he said this?" "well if we do that, that will effect this, so we can" back and forth over and over. Tina was ready to murder me. :)
Meanwhile, Otis Frampton is painting away at some of the best backgrounds we've ever had. He's flying in under the radar dropping in a background every few hours. As they start to collect I'm thinking, "This might actually work out." Did I mention we also put out 3 other videos during this time? Oh yeah... we also made How Do You Do Part II, the Black Widow behind the scenes (which was easier) and Transformers Play Battleship... So yeah... all while Avengers was happening.... hold on my brain exploded again just from remembering those days.
...... brains .......
Back to the story! Time to record voices! Everyone is out of town! What? The usual list wasn't available this time, so we had to "Assemble" a new list.. (waawaaaaa assemble) but luckily Cap (Chris Oldenburg) Ironman (Stephen Dowling) and Nick Fury (Adrian Neely) all got to be their original HISHE actors. Black Widow is a new voice, Amanda Rojas. And I covered the rest.
Once we were at this point it was just a constant grind to the finish line, work work work to make this idea we had been stressing over actually a completed short. And like the miracle it was, we finished ON TIME! So this was a victory to me. I love the final look of the short. Everything felt like complete chaos and then fell right into place as if it was always going to be that way from the beginning. A concept I still can't fully believe happened. When it was over I felt nothing but gratitude for everyone in our circle who go out of their way to make these cartoons what they are. The shorts with more people involved are always the most challenging, but they are also the most satisfying when it's over... Kind of like the Avengers.

Thank you Tina Alexander, John Alexander, Stephanie Savard, Victor Vanscoit, Stephen Dowling, Chris Oldenburg, Amanda Rojas, Adrian Neely, Otis Frampton, Tommy Watson, David Katz.... this was a hard one and it wouldn't have happened without those names.

Keeps getting Better
Yeah, this IS one of the best. I loved Hulk's "SHAWARMAAAA" near the end! :D And it's great to hear the Tank Missile jingle again! Loki's evil/demented laugh was perfectly captured, too. Yeah your stuff is the best.
Oh, and also, where'd you get the music? I can tell it's the Avengers theme and all, I mean, what else would it be, but does it have a particular name that you could give me? I heard it and thought "I so need this as my ringtone".

I am always inpressed by the quality of your videos and the high level of humor, but I wanted to let you know I was especially awed by this latest. It was funny, it was awesome, it was just perfect. Not tomention seeing just how hard you and your crew all work on these vids, it's just impressive. Keep up the great work and much success in your future!

My first comment in months and it's going to be grouchy
I hate to say anything bad to hishe buuuuuut...
I have to ask if this was an alternte ending or a extended super cafe episode because it felt like the latter. I wonded if you could have intergrated it into the short like in spider man 3 then the super cafe segements wouldn't be the driving force in how you produce superhero shorts. I know everybody loves the super cafe segements, I enjoy them too but the short felt like "Super Cafe With Supes and Bats Featering The Avengers" then "How Avengers Should Have Ended".
Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the short and I appreciate and admire your hard work to give us a amusing cartoon and I will continue to support hishe in all their projects but it's just how I feel.

since this is my first comment ever I want you guys to know you are doing a great job! I enjoy every HISHE episode and hope many more will come. However, as ness already mentioned, I think this is more of a super cafe episode rather than an alternative ending. Don't get me wrong, I love the vid, but it was too much super cafe driven.

This was somehow considered an alternate ending....although the Super Cafe was the shwarma restaurant instead...Somehow seems like a promotion for Super Cafe, but also an alternate(Sort-of) ending as well...Should I be impressed, or offended? (No offensive statements intended.) Nevertheless, great work as always, Daniel!

Super Café Gets Crowded...
And the HISHEs keep getting better. After seeing this one, I had to register just so I could tell you how awesome you are. Great job blending the Shawarma scene into the Super Café. It's almost like Joss Whedon was setting you up. :)
I feel like this video wasn't
I feel like this video wasn't really up to par. I love you guys, but it's true. The start was good but the thing about convieniences wasn't really true seeing as how the proffessor was specifically chosen as the expert to work on the tesseract even before he was enslaved by Loki and I feel like Banner didn't learn to control his anger more than he already could, he just had a very specific and distinct enemy to focus it on.

Well, it is convienient that the professor huy managed to work out how to stop the cube without any experiements or testing, or knowing anything about the spear thing. And Banner kinda did learn to control his anger, considering he only want after the aliens, not the people who he was originally fighting (Thor, Black Widdow)
Chris Farley/weak point
The Chris Farley reference at the end was EPIC. I can't remember if it was Tommy Boy, Black Sheep, or even Almost Heroes (I'm almost positive it wasn't that one). but it was hilarious. The main weak point that I saw was that the nuke was set on a timer instead of using targeted coordinates; and the fact that it would have left the atmosphere and then returned, rather than contouring the surface.

Did the critics actually read what Daniel posted?
Daniel said in his post that The Avengers was a "locked down" movie. It didn't have any obvious flaws in it. You can't make an alternate ending for a movie that was so well put together(Although, in my opinion, I would have LOVED to see the Black Panther in the Avengers movie...). There isn't enough time in the world to animate all of the "convenientsolutions", so the much enjoyed Super Hero cafe was the best course of action to take. Daniel clearly said that the non-existent holes in the story were a major brain-exploding headache. I mean, the dude's brain exploded *several* times. Because seriously, how could you do anything but aplaud the Avengers movie?

I agree that the avenger was an airtight movie and no flaws to exploit as an alternate ending and maybe I was expecting too much so the obvious option was to just have fun with it. Since hishe began it was about writing a love letter to their favourite movies and no about being grouchy film fan, just like I was being. However even though I agree the super cafe was the best route to take, but I do feel there are cleaver ways of incorporating the cafe into the short ala spider man 3 without derailing the short into a super cafe episode. Maybe I'm being to critical about avengers hishe but to me it seems superhero shorts keeping back to the cafe segments, not because it has something funny to say but because fans demand superman and batman bantering rather then the alternate ending itself. Daniel wrote how mutiple rewrites occured during the preduction which I think is a clue that hishe must being running of ideas to keep the cafe jokes coming without becoming stale, which is why I think a rest of the cafe should be given before it becomes tiresome, sometime it's too much of a good thing ya know.
I think by now it's pretty obvious I have something against the cafe segements but to be clear this is one mans opinion with a great love for hishe and I'm not trying to come across as a hater, despite how grouchy this post makes me seem. But I feel sometimes hishe needs comments different from the usaul riff raff to help improve themselves.

I love the plot point you went with in the beginning - Loki just sits around waiting to be recaptured while they fight, he's obviously up to something! That's about the only thing I remember from the movie that struck me as a problem.

you should have a scene where thor says that people on earth are so puny and tiny and bets iron man a hundred bucks that he cant even lift his hammer. bruce banner and captain america stand by shaking their heads. Finally, iron man gives up and gives thor the money. captian america comes over and just picks it up (hes the only one who can in the comics other than thor). Thor freaks out and says that its magic and he cant do that! iron man demands his money back. thor ignores him and tries to get his hammer back from captain america.
