100 and Titanic

Submitted by Daniel on Mon, 06/25/2012 - 13:30

Titanic HISHE will be our 100th Upload. Thinking about that number makes me feel old. Where did the time go?! How did we make 100 videos? A lot of time spent in front of the computer thats how. So before I go on and on about how unbelievable it is to me to have made that many vids let me just say "Enjoy Titanic HISHE" Everyone involved in the production worked very hard on this one and I am very pleased with it's final product. As usual it leaves me wishing it could only be longer, but alas, we only have so much time to make each cartoon, you can only fit so much in a 3 week period (maybe 4 weeks on this one, I honestly don't remember because I just focus on finishing the video when it starts) But Congratulations to everyone who's been a part of HISHE, even to the fans. You all have helped take this concept to new heights and now we have 100 videos to show for it. That is pretty awesome! If you'd like to read more about the Titanic HISHE there is a bio in The Forum

But back to 100.  Where did the time go?  I started making HISHE shorts in 2005, so to see 7 years progress to now it's very... well I have no words.  Things have changed so much from when this was just a guy goofing around on his computer.  I suppose I have learned a few things in my years of hacking away short after short.  Some good things, some bad things... lets make a chart and list 100 lessons I've learned over the years... um... 100 lessons is a lot.... how bout I just say what comes to mind and we will pretend it's 100.  Deal?

  1. Your first attempts at things are usually not perfect.  Allow yourself to slowly improve.
  2. Micromanaging is a painful road.  You should try to not do that so much.
  3. Seek Positivity.  The people and things you surround yourself with are shaping you more than your realize.
  4. Be a Sponge.  Always learn as much as you can about your craft.
  5. No one will appreciate how much you live eat and breathe your project as much as you, and THAT IS OK!  They aren't required to.  You chose this not them.
  6. Don't be too stuborn to learn from critizism.
  7. Have you gone out with your loved ones or friends in a while?  You probably should.
  8. Animation takes foreeeeeeever, have patience.
  9. Make your cartoon cinematic.  I know you drew their feet and think everyone wants to see the color of the shoes, but that's not how you block a scene.  Save that for the wide shots, now push that camera in closer.
  10. Doctor Who is awesome.
  11. Don't watch Doctor Who while trying to work, you'll just end up working late.
  12. I'm starting think this list is getting too long
  13. Don't eat so many tv dinners, you probably should improve your cooking skills anyway.
  14. Let others help you.  We went too long before reaching out to other talent.  If other people want to be involved in your production, try to get them plugged in.
  15. Now remember the new people are going to have different ideas than you, let it sink in before you freak out at the idea of change.
  16. Go watch a movie! you've been working too much!  plus you spoof movies for a living for crying outloud.
  17. Hug your family.
  18. Don't promise things to your fans that you can't deliver.
  19. Be excited when you start over because the next one is gonna be that much better.
  20. Remember to be thankful.  You never know how long things will last.  Be thankful for all experiences.

That's probably enough... I'm not some wise old wizard or anything.   But maybe those things will encourage somebody.  Who knows.  OKAY, I actually have things to do today.  So Thanks for reading, thanks for watching.  We will see you guys at the next one!  -later Friends!
