I can't wait for the next Batman movie. I really want to see how Heath Ledger handles the role of the Joker but a new trailer was released that looks very promising.

What do you guys/gals think?

When it comes to the Joker, it is all about the insane smile and laugh and no one does it better then Jack. It was a role he was born to play.

Ronin's picture

I'm certainly stoked. Begins may not have been perfect, but the tone was great and going into this one they don't have to do the setup and the Joker is just a better villain. Dark Knight has tons of potential

Jack may have a good laugh, but I have one that will send shivers down your spine. >:]

Looks awesome. I can't wait.

Is Heath Ledger a good actor?
I don't know that I've ever seen him in anything before.

CTALONS's picture

I know I am going to get a batarang thrown at me, but I really don't like Christian Bale as Batman. I just don't feel any reason to care for him. Don't get me wrong I don't think any of the casting for the other Batman's were much better.

Daniel's picture

what do you mean? george clooney is totally the greatest batman! LOL that movie didn't suck at all!

I don't hate Christian Bale, but his "batman" voice is kind of strange at times. But he is a good "non-showy" actor that fits the bruce wayne style.

Also I find it so fascinating how the whole world is worried about Ledger being the joker. No one can out do Jack until he's been long gone. Otherwise no actor stands a chance playing a role he's already touched. I think Ledger is just as good a choice as any, but I like that he's a younger looking joker. since in this series batman is still kind of "young" himself. I wonder if the Joker breaks the batmobile's wheel then gets away and that's why Batman has a motorcycle in this one :)

Kevin Conroy (Batman TAS) is my all time personal favorite Batman ever. Love that guy.

I personally thought the best that played each role were from the first of the movies. Jack was awesome and I really thought that Micheal Keaton's low key approach was good too. The only thing that drives me nouts about Christian Bale is how hard he forces his voice when he goes into character. It sounds like he has a lisp, and that drives me insane. But I'm totally fired up for this movie. i just wish we could do this movie with keaton and nickelson. That would be an awesome movie.

CTALONS's picture

I always liked Micheal Keaton's performance as well. They always joked about him being tough enough to be Batman, but I think that Tim Burton who directed the orginal did a really nice job giving the film the Dark night feel.

My worry is that this seems to be the age when every movie seems to be remade into a slasher/gore fest and any real character development beyond childhood trauma is actually explored.

Have you seen Christian Bale in American Psycho? He could have done a much better Joker then even Leger. ((Warning extremely violent movie))

Daniel's picture

I had to take a break from Bale after seeing American Psycho. A little too much for me there.

I doubt the Dark Knight is going to be a slasher/gore fest. If the same people are behind this film as Batman Begins I bet they are just trying to up the sense of realism in the batman world instead of the cartoon/comic book look it turned into years back. Even the Tim Burton version is kind of hoaky if you watch it now, but still the best out of the later movies.

I got goose bumps.

Ledger was the star in A Knights Tale and Brokeback Mountain. I think he was Casanova too.

He looks like a man in make-up in the trailer rather than a man disfigured, though.

You can't tell the story of Batman without telling the Joker's. Jack Nickolson was good, but was clearly based on the TV series' Joker. This looks like a totally fresh perspective of a well trod character. Hopefully it will be different enough to be incomparable to Jack's Joker, although I bet their will be a vote on who was better anyway.

In the darkness stakes, this new series of Batman films is to Tim Burton's originals as Tim's was to Joel Schumacher's sequels. As such Christian Bale seems well suited and Jack would be out of place. As for Heath, well we'll see, but I'm excited by the re-interpretation, I wouldn't want to see an imitation.

I don't know about this...I knew that Heath Ledger was playing him and I could not tell it was him in the preview at all. I think maybe they did mess his face up before they put the make up on...but maybe not.

I can't wait to see this, but I do have a question for major fans of the comic books. Why is it never the same girl with batman? I thought they were developing a story between him and Rachel Dawes (Katie Holmes)...oh, nevermind. I went over to make sure I spelled Dawes correctly and just realized that Maggie Gyllenhaal is actually playing the same character as Holmes. Interesting...I wonder why Katie couldn't play the part? :)

Probably because almost everyone seemed to hate her in that movie.

babbzilla's picture

I don't think most like her in general anyways... since the whole Tom Cruiz scientology crap...

But yea I just saw a trailer and it looks wicked... My older sis couldn't even tell that Heath Ledger was the Joker... He looks real scary.... I cringe with fear...

-shudder-

Nah, it's cos she knew the Batman's true identity....

Batman never gets the chick. He always holds back to reveal his alter ego, only for something to derail his plans. If he got the girl, why would he continue dressing up as a superhero? I think being Batman and getting a life are mutually exclusive.

At least that is what I found. Girls and home-made Bat-Outfits don't mix.

Jadeshark's picture

That would make sense...except the Maggie Gyllenhaal is playing the same character that Katie Holmes played (Rachel Dawes)

I keep wondering what rating the movie will get. In the trailers we don't see any blood or graphic content. Though some posters here and here show the Joker writing "Why So Serious?" in what appears to be blood. I'm sure that they are trying to get a PG-13 rating but it just makes me think of how graphic are they going to get in this movie?

Jamesbloke's picture

I just spotted the first poster and I came here to comment only to see I was beaten to it. Drat. Looks rilly cool though. I think it might be time to change the background on my cell...

I just watched the trailer again, but in Hi-Def, and I take it back about the the Joker not looking disfigured*. I still think he is wearing make-up, but so would I, if I had what looks like a Glasgow Smile**.

I hope they don't show how he got it. If it was done to him, it's not a concept I would like imprinted on teenaged minds. That and I'm squeamish.

*Oh, and the poster is a dead give-away, too.

**I had to look the term up... only to find someone else has already made the same connection: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glasgow_smile

Having read that definition, I think I'll just go away and vomit somewhere and try not to have (k)nightmares about soccer matches.

"Scheduling conflicts" stated Katie's people... even knowing she was offered double what she was paid from Begins...

I just finished making a little fan poster today at school:

Jamesbloke's picture

Hey! That's pretty cool. If I had a hat I would take it off to you.

I put the "Why So Serious" poster on my cell a while back. I'm still too scared to answer it when it rings....

Here is the trailer Citizen is referring to. Personally, I liked it, it had a little everything that I wanted to see. Lot of footage of Joker, little of Dent, some actions shots of Batman, and a witty mark or two from Al.

Thanks Dr.

Maybe it's the flying bat suit (I've never been too keen on that one). Maybe it's the Bruce Wayne / Rachel Dawes / Harvey Dent love triangle (did we learn nothing from Spiderman). Maybe it's a lack of Cillian Murphy.

I dunno. That trailer did nothing for me.

Of course neither did Batman Begin's.

Heath looks flawless. Gary Oldman. Christian Bale. Aaron Eckhart. Caine. Freeman. Gyllenhaal. All my favorite people are here. I love this cast. Heck, I'm even excited to see Anthony Michael Hall in the credits. But still... I wasn't impressed with this trailer.

Well some people are never satisfied with a free sample at the mall cafeteria or grocery store and only get satisfaction from a full meal. Nothing wrong with it, just a matter of taste.
