The Viliage
One: Not a happy ending to me... Two: WTF!?... Three: DOES JOAQUIN PHOENIX LIIIIVE?!!?!?!? Peeve after peeve after peeve with this one...

Vanilla Sky
WHAT THE FSCK!?!?!?! DAMN YOU CRAZY TOM CRUIZ! Okay this movie Tarnished anything else I would watch for that entire night... to show ya what I mean lemme quote it... "Look at us. I'm frozen, you're dead. Hehe." MMOTHER F*^$ER! Thinking about that movie makes me mad!

The Sum Of All Fears
Ya know this will be the only good movie I list that I will admit was good, but I didn't like it.. Don't get me wrong it was a good movie but it upset me really bad. Fantastic movie but if I wasn't reminded of how upset I was when i first saw it everytime I think of it... I was upset by it cause it came out after Sept 11 and with the explosion scene I almost walked out I wass crying so bad and... yea but I couldn't cause I know my dad wanted to see it so I waited it out. But it was a great movie... I don't really hate it, I just can't watch it.

Now... most movies with not so happy endings... but there are some movies with not so happy endings that I do like... I just have to see the movie in question but usually if the ending isn't happy... chances are I may not like it..... unless it was really good and highly interesting... hehe

I hated Donnie Darko too. I thought I was the only one that did.

But my all time movie that I hate and everyone else seems to love... Forrest Gump. I'm so sorry. I have no idea why, but I hated every single minute of that movie... I thought I was going to snap at the grave side scene when he's telling her every single thing that he and Forrest Jr have done since she passed. He wouldn't shut up. It wouldn't end.

E.T.
That little thing freaked me out. He was just crazy looking. It didn't help when he came back from the dead. Woah.

Jamesbloke's picture

Bridget Jones (either).

It's not quite film, but this guy gave me scary dreams when I was little: http://www.thechestnut.com/finger.htm.
I hate him too.
It was the scampi's girlfriends wot did it.

I didn't like American Beauty. There, I've said it.

And Dreamgirls. That movie made me want to kill myself.

So that's why your head exploded, it all makes sence now.

I'm with you on that. It had a few nice moments here and there, but all and all it was ... not what it coulda been. Though I did like the reference to Reanimator!

Ronin's picture

I'm hopping on board the "didn't like American Beauty" train. So many of my friends thought it was brilliant, but I thought it was boring, and found myself annoyed with the bitchy mother, loser father.. creepy neighbors.. There just wasn't much by way of characters I could connect with.

Tina's picture

Man, I'm one of those that thought American Beauty was brilliant. Sorry

I commented elsewhere that I hate David Lynch movies and just don't get why that guy is supposed to be so special. I had a long tedious argument with someone in college over the merits of Blue Velvet.

CTALONS's picture

I am a big American Beauty fan too.
I can see how it is a love or hate it film, since it really raw and cold with its depiction.

Ronin's picture

Has anyone here ever seen "Unfaithful"? Diane Lane and Richard Gere. We had heard it was good and it was nominated for some Oscars back when it came out.. but man.. WORST MOVIE WATCHING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. I hated the movie so incredibly much. It was so boring.. and it just wouldn't end.. and I think if it had gone on another minute longer I would have killed someone.

CTALONS's picture

I have to throw out there every Kevin Smith film. Yes, I am around his age and love star wars, but with the exception of "Chasing Amy", they are the worst bunch of wanna be movies I ever seen. Maybe like he is in his movies he shouldn't be stoned when writting the scripts.

Awesome Possum's picture

Two words. HOT FUZZ.

I just hate the movie with all my being. It's supposed to be a comedy, but most of the time, someone is being disembowled, or something much less pleasant than that .

gilinator5000's picture

you can insert any nicholas cage movie into this category. Especially "The Rock" and "Gone in 60 Seconds." I absolutely also hate the movie "The Sound of Music" the name by itself gives me cold chills.

Jamesbloke's picture

Chitty chitty bang bang {shudder}
I still get the screaming heebie jeebies and the cold sweats at night.

Ice Age
I didn't like how death was treated. Bad people dying good, good people dying bad - fair enough. Stupid people (the dodo's) dying is funny? I'm sure that is an 'ism' of some kind, portraying an unfortunately extinct animal as stupid. Tasteless. They should be ashamed. It's thinking like that, that led to Nazi's. Just mark my words. Sid the Sloth will be goose-stepping through Ice Age 3, rounding up the squirrels.

Happy Feet
Enough with the bloody penguins! Actually, I might not be alone in that one. I just wanted it on record though. Oooo, look at the cute penguin tap dancing, that will be fun to watch with my (then) 4 year nephew.
Oh. Now look at the nightmare inducing seal/killer whal.
"Uncle Jamie, Uncle Jamie! Why are they always singing about sex?/Will I cause all those environmental problems when I grow up?/Why do 5 penguins have the same voice and personality?/Hasn't Robin Williams got another film to ruin or has this film saved four others?/What's going on now?/Should I be looking for a lifemate like that penguin?/Can I go home?/Why are penguins fascist?/Where did the cute penguins go?/Did they forget to give it a plot or message until they had filmed 90% of it/etc/etc."
Thank god for that all purpose answer: "I don't know, ask your dad when you get home..."

CTALONS's picture

I hate Pretty Woman.
I do realize of course as a man, the movie is not suppose to be for me, but even as a man I do love a good "chick-flick". The fact that so many people like this movie makes me even hate this movie more.
Am I missing something here?

Tina's picture

Well, as a female in her late 20s (very late 20s) I saw this movie when I was about 11 or 12 and it was magical at the time. I'm fairly certain I didn't get it, and when I think about the premise now its rather terrifying to me. Still, its one of those movies that even the soundtrack brings back good memories with friends I haven't seen in over a decade.

But if I judged just on its merits as a movie...oh I don't know. I still like it...I guess this is just one of those guilty pleasures I can't explain because if I apply reason it will ruin it!

sorry...I don't think I helped at all with this post, but I typed it, so I'm submitting it. :D

CTALONS's picture

You always help Red!
Thinking when you are watching that movie is probably not a good idea. Yet, it worries me that movie may have inspired people like Paris Hilton.

babbzilla's picture

I saw Pretty WOman when I was reeealll little... needless to say I didn't understand it but as I got older... hehehe I love the movie... and Pretty In Pink... and Who Framed Roger Rabbit.... but now I'm just going into the wrong topic... hehehe...

Rocky Horror Picture show
I know people love it and I have tried to love it too, but I just hate it so much man.

CTALONS's picture

This weekend cable has been showing all 3 Indy films...and I have to say I kinda hate Temple of Doom. It just seems to be such a fraile and cheesy center piece in comparsion to the other two films. If this was a stand alone film it would have hit the $.99 pile a long time ago.

citizenbuck's picture

Temple of doom is one of the only movies I've ever walked out on.

And I'm scared of Mutt in the new one too because... he just seems a little too much like Short Round for my personal comfort.

I love this thread! It's really fun to see what people are passionate about - even if it's films that you hate and that go against popular opinion. I've laughed out loud several times reading your comments. This is one of the times I wish we could be in the same physical room so that the conversation could really bounce back and forth organically.

For me, it's Napoleon Dynamite. I know, I know... I didn't want to see it at all, but was conned into it (see the companion thread to this one for the story behind that.) I admit I did find some parts funny and certainly relatable, and it's good having seen it so I can understand the references people make, but still, ugh. Part of my resistance is it was just so popular and I became increasingly stubborn about seeing it or liking it.

I don't like Ben Stiller films; he just bugs me. And I'm with you Gil, I also feel that way about Nicholas Cage, with a couple of exceptions (for example, I really liked Birdy - there's an embedded recommendation for all of you). Thank goodness they didn't let him play Superman.

Ronin, re: Unfaithful, my thought was, "when are they going to stop remaking Fatal Attraction - and badly?!" And CTALONS - I admire a guy who can admit that he likes a good chick-flick. Me too. ;)

I had to watch the good shepord in my a.p. gov. class...
I don't care how "historically accurate" or ""informational" it might be... It sucks as a movie!!!
It would probably be better as a documentary or something...

Coleslaw's picture

Titanic and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Both those movies bored me to death.

no the tape wpuld beccause dvds are better and its a yard sale but the non edited dvd version would hit the like 60 dollar area on ebay

isaac5's picture

oh and i also HATE HATE HATE planet of the apes its soo bpring and it just gave me this in credibly crapy feeling in the end i dot know how it got an academy award was nominated...searching google...confirmed planet of hte apes got an academy award but it still sucks!

I can not stand, I can not stand! Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. As cool as Johnny Depp is I just can't handle it. I think Gene Wilder do so much better in the other movie. and why the crap were all the oompa-loompas the same person?! THEY WEREN'T EVEN ORANGE!!! gosh! :x

Jamesbloke's picture

The Oompa Loompas were a serious let down in that film. Not least because the songs were rubbish - ask anyone what an Oompa Loompa sings and I bet they sing the original "Oompa Loompa Diddley Doo" song! There's not enough sing-a-long in musicals anymore.
