Despite its imperfections, I found Dark Knight Rises to be a very exciting and satisfying end to one of the greatest trilogies of all time.

Why would you call this one of the greatest trilogies of all time if you not only gave this film only 4 stars, but also, or should I say ESPECIALY The Dark Knight. I mean sure, I would call this one of the greatest trilogies ever(Begins- 5 stars, TDK- 5 stars, TDKR 4 to 4.5 stars), but your position perplexes me.

I understand how you feel, and if I gave "half stars" then all three of the movies would be 4.5 stars. But I don't, so a 5 star rating to me says that it's a near PERFECT film. And that I can't really think of a single thing wrong with it. And unfortunately I can, for all three of these films, even though I LOVE THEM ALL. It IS one of the greatest trilogies of all time - because all three movies are fantastic and fit together so well. I can promise you I won't say that about the Iron Man Trilogy. :) I also wouldn't be giving all the original Star Wars films or all of the LOTR films 5 out of 5 stars either, but I'd call them GREAT trilogies too. I guess it's just the difference between great and perfect. Great is still pretty freaking awesome. And in the end, as someone else pointed out, this is just my opinion. I promise, I'm not a critic with a lot of sway (haha!) and even if I was, 4 out of 5 stars would be a great rating.

I'd give it 5 stars out of 5. The story wasn't perfect and it had a couple of plot holes like Inception- but Christopher Nolan gave it great direction, pacing, and a drive that made you see the Rabbit he pulled out of an invsible hat.

I just watched this today and I have to say it is EPIC! but also very sad (my cousin and brother cried!) The plot was very well put together and I enjoyed Bane very much. Catwoman was a very realistic version and quite creative aswell but it was wierd seeing Batman during the day...
Christopher Nolan's trilogy is just amazing.

i just watched this yesterday and i gotta say that it is far more exciting than HP and the dealthy hallows part 2 or any other Harry Potter movie (no offense on HP fans). i would give it a 5 out of 5. Also at the end of the movie it doesnt quite sais if Bruce Wayne died or not because it also could be an Alfred's imagination seeing him in that  restaurant so the end is for you to decide.

That ending was very creative and smart aswell as sad. It was a bit similar to the Inception ending. I like endings like that as it allows you to form your own conclusion. And yeah it was better than Harry Potter's conclusion (for me there wasn't an AMAZING climax)

I disagree that throwing away the badge was out of left field.  Over the five months he had seen corruption from everyone, even Commissioner Gordon.  And if that wasn't enough, I think being shot at and nearly killed by officers on the other side of the bridge was probably enough.

Okay this is my problem with HISHE. If this is one of the greatest trilogies of all time (which it is), all three films are 5 stars (which they are). Look, saying that iron man 2 or cloverfield are as good as the dark knight or the dark knight rises is just wrong. I give all films 5 stars and if you havent seen them already, go NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mexter's picture

That isn't your problem with HISHE, it's your problem with opinion.

One of the greatest trilogies of all time should have it's films rated 5. I mean, Iron Man 2 was pretty bad, same with Cloverfield. I don't mind opinion but I think they are overly strict with these films, and very giving with others. The Dark Knight lost a star because of Rachel which wasn't that bad at all and this TWO HOUR AND FORTY FIVE MINUTE EPIC because of a few minor plot holes. I loved the Avengers and Inception but they had minor plot holes too. Every fim has minor plot holes, and a film as long as this to have as few, tiny, almost negateable plot holes like it does is to be honest quite admirable.

I agree with you on the fact that every movie has plot holes, but (as much as I love the Dark Knight legend) I have to say this movie could've been better. Yes, it was epic. Yes, it was a worthy conclusion to the legend. But when I judge a sequal I judge it in two ways. The first thing I do is judging the movie as a sequal. I have to say, as a sequal, it is nearly perfect. Nolan couldn't have done a better job fitting TDKR into the (now) trilogy. But when you look at it as an individual movie, it is not nearly as good as its predecessors. When watching TDKR, I got the impression that this movie was way less plot-driven than Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Instead, most of this two-hundred-forty-five minutes of epicness was action-driven. Therefore, I have to agree with Tina in giving this movie one star less than its predecessors.

It doesn't really affect a movie for it to have plot holes(unless the movie is all about the plot, as opposed to characters and ideas) as long as they aren't really noticeable or on a few viewings. For example I've watched Inception many times and haven't yet noticed any plot holes; now, I'm sure there are some, mabey even quite a few, judging by what people on the internet say.
But in the end, THAT was a story about Dom dealling with his wife's death and his kid's abandonment. The cool ideas and dream settings were really coincidence to the story, striking as they are.
Dark Knight Rises IS ALSO mostly about the characters and ideas(i.e. the Occupy Wall St. issue), but more so than the previous two films it has an intricate plot, not just in the story itself, but a plot by the villains. And here I DID notice a few rather bothersome plot holes: Why would Talia/Bane seek revenge on Gotham(and not just Bruce) if they didn't know about Dent's corruption and it's consequences at the beginning of the film? To be fair this is hinted at in the film through a few lines which basically say "the Dent Act keeps the streets clean, but at the cost of criminals and homelss having to take shelter in the sewars with the already angry homeless people of the city or face prison without parole". This is a good enough reason, but it isn't explained very well at all at any one point.
There's also the matter of why Talia didn't blow up the bomb at once; the reason is stated as being a prolonged torture of Bruce, but why didn't she just reveal herself after the Gotham takeover if she and Bane were so confidant he wouldn't escape? Now don't get me wrong, I loved this film. But these two plot holes that could easily be explained by a few simple lines of dialogue through the film, but weren't, make me give the movie 4 out of 5, or 3.5 out of 4 or whatever.

The whole point of the movie was  to torture Bruce Wayne.  Right at the very end, they even specifically say that the whole bomb plan was SPECIFICALLY for getting revenge on Bruce (nobody leaves the League of Shadows, and kills most of it's members by torching the place, and even fewer kill it's leader).  In order to torture Bruce Wayne's heart / soul, they torture what he loves:  Gotham.  I mean, who would dress up as a bat, sacrificing life and limb (mostly limb), spend billions of dollars if they didn't feel something for it?   It's also why Talia gets intimate with Bruce -- she tries to get him to "love" her just to know she will break his heart when she reveals herself. Why would you reveal yourself after the city takeover?  Maybe beecause she had the remote detonator all along, plus it gives valuable intel to stop any resistance movements.  She is a member / lead of the League of Shadows; misdirection is your best ally.  Remember, Bane was the one that was confident of breaking Bruce; Talia's just a bit more cautious (and rightly so!)  If she  revealed herself right away, you'd be saying "Geez, why'd she reveal herself right away?  That's stupid when they have the trust of the leaders of the resistance!"

yea, i am positively sure that when we saw Bruce Wayne at the end, it was Alfred's imagination.
If not, then why would we have seen him give that beautifully sad speech about failing to keep his promise to Bruce's parents?
They pretty much screamed in our faces that Bruce was dead. Sad and depressing as this may be, in my opinion, it just makes Batman an even greater hero!!! To me a hero's greatness is defined by how much they are willing to sacrifice to insure that justice is served. And Bruce made the ultimate sacrifice at the end of this movie. YOU ARE MY HERO BATMAN!!!

Anyway, i give this movie 10 out of 5 stars cuz it blew me away!
PS- i bet that next they follow John Blake's Story and make Nightwing movies!

PEACE OUT BATPEEPZ!!!!

Right at the very end when they cut from scene to scene, it shows Fox talking to two techs about how the autopilot could have been fixed.  They tell him that Bruce Wayne checked in a fix for the autopilot 5 months prior (i.e. just before Bane broke him).
This definitely, to me, indicates that Batman/BW survived.

For some reason -I'm not sure why- when I first saw the trailer, and saw the ONLY actor (in my opinion) who could have played Joker in Heath Ledger style instead of him, being someone else... and actually a cop; fist thoughts was "could this be Robin?" (of course no one believes me now... :P I should write up this kind of stuff!)

Can't tell you how excited I am that my instinct... although in the end of the movie I was like "Wow, Batman's dying... so, he can't be Robin after all..." and how sad one feels about poor Alfred!

But in the end, we get to see the picture that Alfred wanted one day to see (guess he can die happy now :P), and of course we witness a Hollywood ending that -to be honest- I think you folks (on the other side of the Atlantic) can't live with ought :P

Anyway, that's with that! Let's see what the HISHE will be all about! ;)

P.S. Cheers from Greece ;)

I believe you :P

I thought it was a pretty awesome movie. Because that's the only type of movies I know how to make.
I survived everything and still got the girl. Who cares about your problems with Plot holes. Anyways Plots are for dead people. And i'm not dead..know why?
BECAUSE I'M BATMAN!

and we would've done what being left with Schumacher's what... Still wondering why on earth that he drugged Tim Burton into saying: "Hey dude can I please list you as a creative producer so someone will go and see The Boy Wonder's Rubber A$$ Cheeks and we set the world up for the concept that Batman can be anyone because so far its been 3 retards who can't play the character for anything and Keaton gets a semi-pass so we can say semi-retard. No matter how you flip this omlet and yes the yolk is a little runny I get this, and yes that is true that nothing is perfect, but what if Nolan never did this? Haters... shush. That man should be praised for this and anything negative even 1% places him in the mindset he's already not likely to leave because let's face it he needs a story the people will love and we've already attacked this? It doesn't get much better than this folks... and yes I even mean that with the Avengers having already been a smashing success!

It was amazing !I actually cried for this one and honestly i do not cry in cinemas let alone at home when  watching a said to be sad film!!I don't even know where to start !  Chritopher Nolan  really proved himself this time , the directing was excellent expecially when it was shown upon Anne Hathaway  , she played her role perfectly from the tip of her fingernails to the tip of her toes! WOW! As soon as the film started i was immediatly drawn into it and I have to say that it was quite emotianal than expected , when it came to Alfred , but it deffinitly made me cry! I can't believe i am going to say this but THE DARK KNIGHT RISES:THE END is and has to be better than AVENGERS! yes , i know you probably think I am a bit retarded but , it was beutiful in every persepective , the script as well was not too dragged and it really made fans proud and i haven't read the comics but according to source who has read the comics has said that "although it isn't  the same as the comic it didn't go too far away from it either it was PERFECT!! PERFECT ENDING TO THE PERFECT TRILOGY ! :')
