Wizard Magizine has been talkin about this movie forever now! I wanna see it!

Ok... this is a movie I have been hoping they would make for a long time, and much like my disappointment with Bay to do Transformers, I feel the same way about 2 things for GI Joe. First... Dennis Quaid. I can't stand the dude. I'm sad that he is the general. I wish he would play the role of "person that gets shot by cobra commander in scene 1" then i'd be happy. Second, Stephen Sommers as director. Van Helsing with GiJoe Characters does not excite me at all.

I feel this is one of the MANY childhood cartoon turned to feature films we will see in the future (Transformers, Speedracer, GIJoe, Voltron, who knows what else) to which i'm not opposed to, I just want them to be done right.

As campy as G.I.Joe is, it's got to be daring in it's level of intensity, or else it's just going to be a huge joke. If they are talking trilogy, i'm really curious what they've got in store story-wise. The mummy is hardly a trilogy but rather one lame sequel after another.

I hope HOPE HOPE, G.I.Joe has some real combat suspense like Private Ryan or Blackhawk Down (because lets be real, G.I.Joe is about warfare) If it turns out to be an "indoor-studio-over-lit-soap-opera with only a snake eyes kungfu fight scene" (which is what i'm really afraid it's going to be, based on Sommer's track record) then i'm going to be really sad. This is a movie for Joss Whedon, or JJ Abrams! guys who know how to mix action and story with multiple character roles.

Other than those two things though! i'm really anxious to see this film. I am excited to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt as cobra commander too!

*side note* how many people had/have G.I.Joe toys growing up? what were your favs?

Big fan of Joe. The cartoon was quality for back in its day and the toys always had a lot of cool extras. I do have a couple of the orginal comics, but I was never a fan of them. Stormshadow, Zartan (his figure turned colors!) Blowtorch, Snakeyes...never really cared for the basic Joes.
Remember when they repainted the toys and resold them as now being used for the otherside...brilliant marketing.

Honestly, this seems to much for anyone to bite off. I have yet to see a good "team" movie in which the right characters get the right amount of play. That's right, I am looking at you Bay! 20 minutes of Frenzy and 20 seconds of Starscream?! I'll get you Bay!

Our Action Force was taken over by GI Joe when the toy maker died and his family sold his factory to Hasbro. I kept reading the comics, even when they switched to Marvel and even when the comic then got tacked onto the back of Transformers (so not all bad).

I found the original comicbooks posted online recently:
http://www.bloodforthebaron.com/
They have everything from the original Action Force facing Baron Ironblood to introduction of some Joes, to Baron Ironblood's transformation into Cobra Commander, to the Joes completely taking over.

This film is doomed if the animated movie is anything to go by.

Blood for the Baron!

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Cobra Commander? Is that right?

Be curious to hear your thoughts on his comments Cap.

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if Snake Eyes ended up being the film's narrator... But that's me.

so... he basically just said that the movie is so worthless you wont think about it after you leave the theater. hmm.... CAN'T WAIT TO SPEND MONEY ON THAT.

i'm sure the trailer will have awesome cg, over the top effects, and trick me into going just the same.

But if it ends up being totally ridiculous, then guess who gets to make a cartoon of it? :)

oh yeah. yo Joe!

CTALONS's picture

Any chance the movie will turn into this...

"Hey, I was on Third Rock from the Sun! It's just like Shakespeare, but it was on TV. I am only doing this film so I can give the money to the poor."

Yeah, I'd say based on that interview...you're not going to get any Saving Private Ryan or Black Hawk Down scenes. I'm going to go ahead and say now that however you thought Transformers was a let down, this is going to be 100 times worse. I have a feeling the HISHE cartoon material will make our brains explode.

Did anyone else notice Leonard Maltin actually flush pale when Joseph Gordon-Levitt started talking about GI Joe? Maltin recovered well with the old "well it takes all kinds" diatribe, but you could tell he was a bit ... he had that look you get when you see someone trip and you don't really do anything to help them except wait for them to stand up again and then venture "You alright?"

Yeah, I felt bad for Leonard. There really was no reason for the kid to trash the movie. Poor Leonard trying to save his future career.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
Dennis Quaid just look so out of place in the publicity shots - I think he might of eaten something bad beforehand.

I totally agree. Dennis Quaid+General=Private Quaid performance

Is this movie "low budget". I can think of so many great powerful actors to play the part.

Who knows, maybe this will be Quaid's break out role. Look at John Travolta -"Pulp Fiction". Who woulda thunk it.

I just hope that whomever is in charge of casting, isn't the same schmuck that cast Stallone for "Judge Dredd"! Stallone spent most of the movie OUT of the helmet (So you can see his face; I know, I know) -- Can you imagine that for the actor(s) they cast for Snake-eyes or Cobra Commander????

Destro's the man. Always has been.

Breaker looks rather him.

Baroness... hi Baroness...

Maybe its just me but whenever I see a Wayne's brother in a movie...I just think goofy. Not that you could take this movie seriously, but still its odd casting.

Slightly off-topic, but hopefully relevant and amusing enough to compensate. ;)
(And hopefully Obama supporters are not offended; I think G4 just borrowed his video concept and it's not meant to poke fun at him per se, but if it troubles you please let me know, and I'll yank the post.)

Attack of the Show: Yes We Shall

That's just cool. If i was Obama I would have this somewhere on my official site. I don't know that it'll help him win or anything... it's just awesome.
