This film, and the world of the Iron Man, has just enough reality in it to make it believable, and I think this helps with the success of the story. He's fighting real, relatable enemies in a fantastic, superhero way. Iron Man has heart, action, and even well delivered comic relief. I give it a very strong 4 out of 5.

I liked Iron Man. It was funny and action packed. The characters were likable. I loved Robert Downey Jr. His acting was incredible...I loved how he started off as this playboy party guy and turned to hero with a heart of gold (but in a believable, flawed way).
I really liked the scene where Pepper "fixed" him. (You know which one I'm talking about.) It was sweet and gross and funny and intimate all at once.
I did find myself having to consciously remind myself to suspend disbelief and just enjoy the movie a few times, unfortunately. It could have just been my mood or something...it wasn't like Transformers for me, which I believed completely and got totally into the film. So something was a little off for me.
But overall I thought it was a great summer movie.

I couldn't stop laughing. Also, on another note, does anyone think that robotic arm should win an Oscar for best supporting actor for it's heart wrenching (literally, you know what I mean) performance.
Iron Man
Did we watch the same film? (sorry, but I've got to think of the fantasy league)
I was surprised by how little there was in it. I think the trailer did a better job of introducing Stark, in a fraction of the time. There was no pace, no suspense, and very little action. And someone should google map afganistan - characters popping back and forh all the time as if they were going down the road to buy some milk didn't help.
What was with the taleban - whoops, can't call them that, I mean the 10 circles? I didn't realise bringing terror to a few peasants and goats required (or even provided funds for) such advanced weaponry. What's the big deal with whuppin a load of rag heads anyay? John Rambo does that all the time and he doesn't need a special suit.
The denouement was rushed but at least the ending was slightly unexpected.
In fairness, the acting all round was good and there were plenty of laughs to be had. I just get the impression that they had a script with so many ideas they didn't know which ones to follow - and ended up going nowhere.
Nice cameo from Stan Lee by the way.
Iron Man
I need to see this film. :)

Did anyone catch "the spoiler after the credits?"

Oh my gosh, if that was for real... How cool.
Iron Man
yeah i saw after the credits. I hope they do the same with Hulk and so on untill they get the full cast :) that would be the ultimate prequal to a massive movie!
Also, i really liked Iron Man. :)
Iron Man
robert Downey / Tony Stark is making an appearance in Hulk. Hopefully, it'll be to talk about the ... thing. I read last night that they want to make a movie with the current actors... Jon F really, really wants to direct. I'm psyched.
Iron Man
The Avengers movie is on! They have decided to do Ant-Man next, then Thor, Avengers, then Captian America: The Ultimate Avenger. Marvel will only release movies in the summer, so the next few summers are going to be hoT!
Iron Man
I just saw the movie this afternoon and it was great. :)
HEADS UP
The Avenger movie should be out by 2011-2012.
Iron Man
I can't help but wonder which version of the Avengers will be represented ..
Iron Man - Check (And the post-scene VERY freakin' cool!! Sam Jackson as Col. Fury -- OUTSTANDING)
Hulk - seems ontrack; I find it interesting that this movie is The Incredible Hulk, as opposed to Hulk II, or somesuch -- its almost as if Marvel retconned Ang Lee!
Thor - Coming soon I hear .. pray to your Gods (whomever they might be) that this version is better than the Hulk Vs. Thor!! (Personally I'm hoping for the Donald Blake version as opposed to the Greenpeace Thor)
Capt. America - Anybody heard anything? Please don't let it be a painted trash-can lid he's throwing!!
Spider-Man - Is Tobey signed on for this? and for that matter ..
Wolverine - I've heard rumors about a solo-Logan flick with Hugh; is there future arrangement for a non-"X-team" flick?
That's all the ones I can think of that are current -- Has anybody heard more? Are we talking "Ultimates", current membership (pre- or post-"Civil War"), 80's line-up (Hawkeye and Mockingbird!!), or more like the WW II (with Namor and the orig Human Torch AKA Vision)?
I just hope it's not Avengers West .. or worse still, the Great Lakes Avengers!! :P
Iron Man
*sigh* sometimes you really gotta read before you speak ..
I found this on IGN about Marvel movies .. dated from TWO YEARS ago ..
Marvel Movie News Galore
Captain America, Nick Fury, Thor and more!
by Stax
April 28, 2006 - Remember, you heard these two Marvel movie scoops here at IGN FilmForce first: Edgar Wright is writing and directing Ant-Man and David Self is scripting Captain America.
In addition to confirming our past exclusives, The Hollywood Reporter has the rundown on a slew of other comics-to-film projects in-development at Marvel Studios. Nearly all the projects will be funded via Marvel's recently acquired $525 million warchest, which guarantees them complete creative control.
Marvel's highest priority projects are reportedly Iron Man, with Jon Favreau now onboard to direct, and Hulk 2. Neither project is covered by the Marvel warchest; Iron Man is at Paramount, while Hulk 2 is at Universal. THR says X-Men: The Last Stand co-screenwriter Zak Penn has been tapped to script Hulk 2. Captain America is said to be the next big priority for Marvel after Iron Man and Hulk 2.
The trade says Wright (Shaun of the Dead) will co-script Ant-Man with Joe Cornish for Big Talk Prods. They also report that Andrew Marlowe (Air Force One) is penning Nick Fury, while Mark Protosevich (Poseidon) will script Thor.
"In the comics, the stories that appealed to me most were the features called Tales of Asgard," Protosevich advised THR. "They were very much based on the traditional Norse myths and how the relationship between being like Thor and Loki and Thor and Odin, and how these beings manifested themselves. I don't want to give too much away, but I will say the movie will take place in the world of myth and legend but will not betray some of the thematic elements of the comics that made them so appealing, like the idea of a god growing to truly understand man."
Screenwriter David Self spoke with the trade as well and provided fans with an idea of what to expect from the Captain America movie. "He's a Norman Rockwell character who is faced with today's America and is forced to look at his own past, things in the '40s that weren't necessarily what they were cracked up to be," the scribe said, adding, "and also how today's country may be different than it looks."
In related news, Marvel Studios topper Avi Arad spoke with Business 2.0 Magazine about the studio's upcoming slate, and revealed quite a bit about Hulk 2.
"The [first] Hulk movie was a study of anger, and people wanted a popcorn movie," Arad explained. "Our Hulk will be a diet Hulk. Lighter. Focusing on the love story, Hulk as hero, and his battle with the villain." Arad advised the magazine that the villain of Hulk 2 will be Abomination, of whom Arad said, "He's capable of amazing feats."
-- A couple of other things I picked up on .. the Ant-Man movie will have BOTH versions (a thief, Scott Lang finds a super-suit prev used by Hank Pym) and in addition to Capt. America's movie, there will be an ENTIRE movie for Nick Fury! (At least this was the plan two years ago)
August 10, 2006 - In Marvel Studios Analyst Day Webcast, the company's senior executives revealed its agenda and goals for their slate of upcoming comic book movies to analysts and investors. Marvel's plan is to self-finance two movies per year beginning in 2008, with seven projects currently in development as part of that ambitious slate.
The presentation's biggest revelation was that X-Men movie vet Zak Penn will script the live-action feature film version of The Avengers. Also on the radar for Penn is the Universal-based Hulk 2, which is expected to be Marvel's second major release in 2008 after Iron Man. Louis Leterrier will direct.
Key members of the production team for director Jon Favreau's Iron Man movie were named. J. Michael Riva (Spider-Man 3) will serve as production designer, Oscar winner John Nelson (Gladiator) will be the VFX Supervisor, and Matthew Libatique (Inside Man) will act as the director of photography.
The presentation confirmed that Ant-Man will feature not one but two versions of the Marvel character, with small time criminal Scott Lang stumbling upon a supersuit once worn by Dr. Hank Pym. Edgar Wright is attached to direct.
Thor, which is being written by Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend), will have the Norse god of thunder banished to live as a human amongst mortal men.
Marvel's self-financed slate also includes feature film versions of Captain America (scripted by David Self) and Nick Fury (scripted by Andrew Marlowe). The studio-financed Marvel movies currently in development include Deathlok at Paramount, Gargoyle at Sony, Namor at Universal, The Punisher 2 at Lionsgate, and Wolverine and Magneto at Fox.
Sorry about the off-topic posts, but like Duke used to say .. "Knowing is half the battle!" :P
Iron man 2?
Now personally I think Iron Man was great, but do you think that if they do make a sequel they could actually pull it off? A sequel could defiantly have more action, because the first one already explained the orgin of him. So in a sequel he could just hop into the suit and then be off....right?
I would just hope though that they dont mess up the charachters in a sequel, kinda like Spiderman 3.
Iron Man
Hey! I think that post above me was my first post! :D
Umm, in terms of reality though...it seems like Tony stark appeared to have all sorts of amazing inventions and apparently he was a genuis.
SOoo...How come the only thing he didn't have was a SECURITY SYSTEM!
Talk about a load of trouble that would have saved.
Iron Man
exactly if he had a alarm system he would be fine and if he is a geius why not cary a small laser gun or somthing
Why Iron Man makes sense....
"Basically taking place in modern day, Stark (played with his usual wit by Robert Downey Jr.) is captured in Afghanistan and forced to realize his business of weaponry has a dangerous human side"However, I also learned that no matter what leftist agenda is pushed, you still need bigger and better weapons to kick the bad guy's ass. I liked this movie a lot, mostly for that reason. You can't let the bad guys push you around, you need to push back anc push harder so that they stay down.
Iron Man
All in all, a pretty OK movie. It didn't turn out how I expected as far as most superhero films go. The first part of the movie didn't have enough "force" to grab my interest. the movie really started picking up around when Tony was captured by the terrorists. They kept up with Stan Lee's obsession with love story in the film.
