Nearly died making this one. lots of layers. lots of fancy costumes. but still one of my favorites.

*edit*
Most people that disagree with this short usually say 2 things. 1. that would never happen because the nazghouls would take'm out. or 2. The Eagles would only help if commanded by the brown wizard. I find both of these excuses to be lame and false.

to the First Reason: The Nazghouls did attack and were completely unstoppable UNTIL THE EAGLES SHOWED UP. Point being, the eagles have no challenge against the Nazghouls.

Second reason: Given the amount of times the Eagles were sent to Gandalf's aid before, why are we to believe he couldn't get the same favor pulled for our situation? And if there is an issue? Then we blindfold the eagles and they don't know what there involved in. Just like putting the sheet over the cage to make a bird sleep :)

I absolutely love the movies. Just pointing out a slight oversight.

This is my favorite!

I love the dialogue at the end when they are flying into the sunset...cracks me up everytime! :D

I agree with you Lady Red Death. Hands down the best ending chatter of all the HISHEs out there. Followed very closely by Han's line in Star Wars.

best one yet. Plus it saves us three films of mindless boredom.

CTALONS's picture

mindless boredom? Are you kidding? This is the second highest selling book of all time...and that's with the Bible being #1.

Tremendous work...great artwork!

Hey, why other then the obivious, didn't just take the Eagles? I'm figuring there is a reason the book gives, espically since they are wearing blindolds.

Tina's picture

Yes, actually the movie commentary...and I'm assuming the book, states that the eagles can be corrupted by the ring as well and would therefore not be able to fly them to Mordor because they would try to take possession of the ring. So in our silly minds, we just figured you had to trick the eagles and not let them know where you're going or what you're doing (thus the blindfolds in our cartoon). I thought it was a funny touch! :D

By the way...

I saw an episode of Veggie Tales this weekend called LORD OF THE BEANS... They actually had a moment where the fellowship gets the bright idea of jumping on one of the eagles instead of walking the whole way... but the bird ends up being a little faster than they thought. They miss and end up falling a long way down. After that they swear never to try that again as they have learned their lesson about taking the easy way out.

Gotta love VeggieTales. They rock!

You got me and my wife laughing on that one. Nice follow-up.

Was going to comment, but there's nothing left to say. Well done, many props. I love this site so damn much.

Hi. I'm new, and I love the movies you make. This one in particular is great, but I'm sorry to say I can't decide which one is my favorite between this one, Star Wars, and Superman.
Love the comics also.
Can't wait to see your Pirates 2.

Yeah, this one's my fav too!

Partly cause I like LotR, but also cause it's a great idea, really good done and the first one I watched!

I like the other ones too.

Well, it looks like on YouTube this one has been pulling it's weight. Digg linked it and now it's up to almost 36,000 views.

This was the first short I saw, and after watching every other one, this is the best. I love the part where Sauron is all embarrassed - 'I don't like you...'. You guys also did a good job on the ending voices, if that was just one person doing every bodies voices at the end, they did a good job with different voices. One thing I think you should do for shorts as detailed as this is add credits.

I do like your films. And this one is also good. But I disagree with you about this one. I had originally had the same thoughts as you, but after thinking it over, flying into Mordor had a slim chance of working. And here is why I say that.

In the Hobbit, Gandalf tried to get the Eagles to take them further on their journey, but they refused (I forget why). And there is no way they would let someone blindfold them.

But say that part of the plan worked. Mordor would be full of 10,000 -20,000 orcs. But far more dangerous would be the Ringwraiths riding their Fell Beast.

You may say, ?¢‚Ǩ?°?É‚Äû?ɬ?In Return of the King, the Eagles attacked the Ringwraiths riding their Fell Beast.?¢‚Ǩ?°?É‚Äû?ɬ?

At that time, the Witch King was recently killed. Had he been alive it might have made a difference. But even if it didn?¢‚Ǩ?°?É‚Äû?ɬ¥t here is the kicker. When the Eagles attacked, they were carrying no one on their backs or in their claws. Watch how they attack and then tell me someone could have stayed on their backs. And if they were carrying someone in their claws, they could not use those claws to attack or defend.

Had they had people on their backs, and/or in their claws there is no way they could have defended against the Ringwraiths riding their Fell Beast, especially blindfolded.

So I don?¢‚Ǩ?°?É‚Äû?ɬ¥t think just flying into Mordor would have been a walk in the park. Trying to sneak in obscured would probably have been their beast bet.

Tina's picture

hee hee, welcome REB!
Yes, we heard this a lot after we released this one. I think realistically you are probably right, but they could have at least flown on the Eagles to Mordor instead of walking all that way! That's really my favorite part of this one...the dialogue at the end.

Its just our silly little fantasy of what could have happened. But we love the original movies and how they actually ended. :)

REB's picture

Thanks for the welcome

It was well done.

It might have worked, but it might not have. But Gandalf (If we stick to his character) wasn?¢‚Ǩ?°?É‚Äû?ɬ¥t one to take many chances unless he had to. Like him not wanting to go through those mines. Who knows? It?¢‚Ǩ?°?É‚Äû?ɬ¥s only a movie.

Anyway, I am showing my Geeky side. The funny thing is, I didn?¢‚Ǩ?°?É‚Äû?ɬ¥t even want to see LOTR when they came out. I saw them all on DVD a while after they came out. I read the Hobbit as a kid, but I have never been into Fantasy. I am more of a Science Fiction fan, but I loved LOTR after I saw them.

I had wondered why the Elves could not have taken the ring and drop it in the ocean as they traveled to their new lands. Two or three miles underwater should be out of reach, right? Of course, the ring, having its own will, could get a fish to swallow it and have the fish wash up on the beach for someone to find it- or something like that. When you have a ring that has a will of its own I suppose anything would be possible.

Being geeky again, sorry :)

I was just re-watching the shorts again to find a winner for babbz...and I noticed the wisper in the background of the opening title of LOTR.
Can someone tell what is being said, I can't make it out.
Thanks!

I CAN TELL YOU :)
I looked up some Elvish translator online while in production of HISHE LOTR and did my best attempt at properly pronouncing the two sentences, "I like big butts" AND! "you should be out on a date" in hopes that somewhere some LOTR superfan would hear it and hopefully crack up laughing.

But Alas, nobody translated it. I must have gotten the elvish wrong.
