Lost... where do I start?  I always begin these by saying "This was one of the most challenging shorts we've ever taken on."  LOST, however, was quite simply THE most challenging short to date in the HISHE community. And I can honestly say it effected me physically.  So many characters, so many script re-writes, so many extra pieces.  This one took it's toll.  But I absolutely love it.  I'm so proud of everyone who helped us make this short happen. From the minute the finale aired, we knew the pressure was on.  How do you capture the essence of a show that is 6 seasons long and funnel it into 2minutes?  How do you keep from leaving characters behind when not all characters are still alive in the finale?  How do you out smart a show that is full of twists and turns, super intelligent, and has millions of fans who know the details frontwards and back?  And most of all, how do you not copy cat someone else's LOST joke?  Well after about 7 script rewrites we settled on Lapidus.  We knew it was something nobody would see coming.  We knew it would be the perfect spot to fit in the most cast members in one scene.  And it would also satisfy my urge to pay homage to one of my favorite comedian actors, Will Forte.  Thus the Lapidus script was a go.First lets talk Music.  Bryan English (who didn't know the first thing about Lost when we started) wrote the music for this short.  It was incredible what he was able to knock out of the park.  My personal favorite being the trombone gliss at the very last with the polar bear.  That is Bryan actually playing his trombone!  I love it when we get to use real instruments.  He also wrote and sang the song for the "You're In Hurley's World Now" which cracked me up to tears.  "Eatin some chicken, jet skiin with a shaaaaaAAAAAAAArk!"Second, Voices:  Stephanie Fisher is Kate, but more importantly, crazy Claire.  She nailed it.Mark Fisher was Sawyer and the Polar BearBryan English was Carlton Cuse (Lost Creator) and the singer for the Hurley songAnd I played the rest.Third Artwork:This artwork killed me and satisfied to boot.  There are too many characters to count on Lost, and at first I wasn't sure who all we would use, so I just started drawing as many characters as I could.  I'm kind of sad we never used a Daniel Faraday, but I did draw him.   The Lapidus montage was also especially fun to create.  I tried to cram as many lost visuals as we could muster together.  All the extras where what became Hurley's Short however I did end up haveing to create a lot of other things (batman dancing that sort of thing)  Overall I am really pleased with the majority of the artwork of this short. And last with no least: Thank you to Tina Alexander for putting up with all of the Lost chaos and immense script discussions.   We made it.   I think it's safe to say she and I don't want to over think a show as vast as LOST for a long Looooong time. Hope you guys enjoyed it! :)

I have no Idea what Lost is about...peiriod....aw heck...why bother...still a funny vid even though i had the slighest clue what was going on.... EDIT: DUURRR....how on earth did I NOT pick that up?!!?!?!? MCGRUBER!!

The McGrubber cross over was Epic. Just Epic.  I loved how you encapsulated so many of the unique and somewhat puzzling character traits so quickly.

I'm glad you mentioned: "I always begin these by saying "This was one of the most challenging shorts we've ever taken on."" because usually I, as well as most of us always reply with "This is the best short by far" or "This has to be my personal favorite." I just never wanted to mention it because I'd sound like a jerk. The Lapidus joke was really well done, and the first time I saw it I felt like it was too similar to the MacGruber sketches, except I've never actually seen the opening theme for McGyver and if it's actually like that, then it's just as great. Also the "It's totally an option" line is excellent, one of the classic HISHE lines that manages to be so quick and timed just right, remindes me of the unforgetable "Shut Up!" in the Blair Witch HISHE.I'd like to believe the Polar Bear joke was put in there at the end due to my insistance on the polar bear scenes on Facebook, because I have been wondering now forever if you would put a Polar bear in it somewhere, one time I was so tempted to ask you to, but I didn't want to sound pushy and make you feel like whichever way you had it written wasn't as good enough. I also thought I'd be the only one to praise the trombone noise at the end, because when the Polar bear showed up it totally made my day. Was that a coke it was drinking? but bascially yeah, of all the mythology of the series and things you could have made a joke about i'm glad it was Da Bears.

The artwork is AMAZING! I'm in awe how you got all the characters just right. And it sure looks like a hell of a  lot of work.My favorite part: Hurley bobbing up a bit on his last sentence. This one I'll be watching over and over again and sending to oll my LOST friends (unintentional pun).

I totally want to live on Hurleys island now. Amazing stuff-again :)

Bad Wolf's picture

No kidding, he's got millions of dollars (asuming it isn't claimed from his being presumed dead - again!) and an island paradise all to himself. He's livin' the dream man! Well he's gotta share the island with Ben... and the Others who didn't die... and Rose, Bernard and Vincent. And anyone else that crazy island might be hiding.BUT!!... the best part is that under Hurleys control, there won't be any more unnessissary deaths on the island!Gotta wonder though, with so many people who came and went from the island, how much junk left over is there?

I have to be honest I never watch a episode of lost except one time and it was about the polar bear but honestly I didn't get it. I guess it happens when you don't watch the show from the beginning.  However I did love this video. Great artwork too . My favourite was the hurley world song.

WOW!!!I've never taken the time to comment on a HISHE on the website (not that they aren't all incredibly amazing, they are) but I just have to say something about this.It. was. PERFECT. Absolutely perfect. I loved every second of it, it was a great homage to my favorite show in the world, and I'm so glad you made the references you did and were willing to kindly poke fun at the ending, because from what I've seen most people either loved it to the point of this strange non-logical ephoria hindering them from thinking it through objectively or they hated it with a passion so great they can't accept any of the good. I'm in the middle, as there were definitely parts of the finale that I really loved and got me all emotional, but there were other things that left me feeling a little cheated. The purgatory thing felt a bit cop-out-ish, but it gave us some sweet moments that I am glad to have had. You did a good job of jabbing Darlton without being mean spirited and you made me laugh in the process. Well done Daniel and well done HISHE crew. And thank you so much for the Kate joke. And your portrayal of Jack. Amazing.

That was great, and Jacob's sundial watch cracked me up. You know, it's the little things, your attention to detail. Anyway, I also loved Chaz's rant at Jacob in the deleted scene.

Kiddo's cameo isn't in this short. Unless I'm mistaken.

Having that message on the timer when it doubles in speed is also a great little joke.

Daniel's picture

He's in there. :)  and it's not the HISHE slide intro.

czechman345's picture

I loved this one!  This captured all of my dissapointment and frustration with mysteries left behind, important characters forgotten, unsatisfactory explainations, and the whole purgatory cop-out.  Thanks for making this!  It rocks!

I dont even watch Lost but I couldnt help watching the "Hurly's world" video 20 times. were can I get that mp3?

Gar's picture

The purgatory thing, I'm quite sure was JUST the alt-timeline. Everything that happened on the Island was real. I'll make a post about what someone from Bad Robot thought about the series ending, what he had to say actually improved the finale a lot for me.Check my post here: http://www.howitshouldhaveended.com/forum/lost?page=25

I've ran through a couple of times now and I'm pretty sure kiddo is riding in the car during the lapidus montage but it goes by too fast to look. A tricky one daniel :).

Daniel's picture

Nope, that is actually a blurry Jin next to Hurley.  Kiddo's not in that shot either.

Bliss's picture

I looked for kiddo two or three times but everytime I forget what i'm looking for because I get to carried away with this short.

Appsro's picture

Just saw it on youtube and laughed hysterically at the Lapidus/MacGruber crossover.  Very well done guys.  After seeing it I was inclined to come to the site just to sign up and voice my appreciation.  Also I'm loving the extra content on the site.-- Jon Etheridge (Appsro)Creator of "Doraleous and Associates"Fan of HISHE

Kiddo is 00:45 in the bottom right hand corner of the bomb. Boo-ya!

sgtdie's picture

hahaha, i was gonna ask where kiddo was until i saw your post, lol, probably a good thing i didn't ask, but really, i never would have noticed on my own, thanks mate, AND THE SHORT WAS REALLY AWESOME! (coming from a guy who has never seen anything "lost" whatsoever)

I have never seen LOST before...That being said, this is nothing short of hilarious! Great job as always Team HISHE! This one is going in the top 5!

joesbananas's picture

I'm not going to ruin it for my self by watching the actual ending.

As a huge Lost fan I gotta say I was impressed. I'd love to see your take on the rest of the characters from the show Daniel.

KuroRaikou's picture

no matter how many times i watch this it doesn't get old. the character art is spot on and i love how you just nail all the random traits each one has. particularly kate and jack. throughout the entire series they never seem to make up their minds about anything til the end.
