I assumed I would give this film three stars, but as I wrote my review I found myself really disappointed with it...and without a lot of things to praise. Maybe I'm getting tougher? My advice on this film is to read the book, or watch something else. I give it two out of five. FULL REVIEW

Ouch! That bad?

my review of your review
Honestly Tina? Do you just LIKE, having mode swings? You give a movie a good review and then turn around in a manner counterintuitive to how you USUALLY review!! YOUR USUALLY SO FAIR!!! AND NICE!!! I dont CARE that EVERY CRITIC says the same things about this movie, it is getting so cliched!!! EVERY. SINGLE. CRITIC(!). Your better then that TINA!!! I AM GOING TO WATCH THE MOVIE AND READ THE BOOK AND I'M GOING TO POST A GOOD REVIEW AND START A FORUM TO REVIEW YOUR REVIEWS!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I'M SO EVIL, I LOVE IT!
Mode swings
I like having mode swings. It's nothing like mood swings. Oh sorry, I think I took someone's job there.
um... sometimes movies suck
um... sometimes movies suck shemonster. Trailers are a very powerful weapon of deception. If this movie is that important to you then go see it already instead of spewing crap all over the place.
talk about mood swings.
REALLY?
What will you do if you see the movie and hate it, shemonster? Will you still write a good review? What a bizarre post. But back to your review, Tina...I'm so sorry to hear this. I heard that the book was amazing, so I had high hopes for the movie to be at least half as good. I guess I'll just stick to reading the book. It's on my long, long list. :)
By all means...
I would love for you to critique my reviews...or better yet, the movies I'm watching because that's the point of this forum. The reality is that my reviews are just my opinion; I don't think I have some final word on the film. Different people like different things at different times. I do find it odd though that you are mad at my rating and you haven't even seen the movie or read the book. Are you being silly? Giving one movie a nice rating and then giving another film a bad rating is kind of what movie critics do. Sometimes every critic agrees because...well...the film actually sucks. :)
This is defiantly not my
This is defiantly not my type of film, but it just doesn't seem like this would be a movie Peter Jackson of all directors would have made, and I think thats a big mistake on his part.
Tina's made many good, fair
Tina's made many good, fair reveiws in the past, so I'll agree with her on this one. I haven't seen the film, and honestly, im surprised. Peter Jackson directed this? After doing an amazing job on Lord of the Rings, I'm shocked to see how he could've done terrible on this one. I know I'm kind of being a kiss-ass here, but oh well. It's just so easy to side with HISHE :)
Okay let me explain...
I just hate it when people who love books try to make it something special, like turn it into a movie. But i hate it when people say the movie is nothing like the book and give it a crappy review. Jurassic Park is and always will be an awesome movie, and the book is just as good. But honestly tina, lower your expectations a little. Everyone gave Daybreakers a bad review, but you gave it a good review. People hated Lady in the Water, but you loved it. Sorry about the mood swing.
Let's not miss the point...
Shemonster, thanks for your thoughts on this subject. I must say, I can understand you a lot better when you're not "shouting" in oversize, bold red letters. ;)About your comments: I completely disagree that Tina should lower her expectations, and I think your complaining that Tina's opinion is the opposite of other critics makes no sense. Is she supposed to agree with everyone else? How would you respond if I asked you to agree with everyone else's movie tastes? How is that even possible? Everyone is entitled to an opinion about movies around here - especially our resident movie reviewer. This thread is actually *not* about Tina (sorry, Tina! I'm sure you're devastated ;) or even necessarily about her review. It *is* about The Lovely Bones, and what everyone thought about the film. Feel free to respectfully discuss that, and agree or disagree with other people's opinions -- although having seen the film is kind of a prerequisite to giving an opinion. (In the Movies section we can talk about films we're excited to see, dreading, trailers, etc.) Take me as an example: I haven't read the book or seen the movie, so I'll come back to share my thoughts when I have. This thread is *not* about books-to-movies in general, though if you want to discuss that (civilly), I'd join you. You could start a new thread on that topic under the section for Movies or the one for Books, etc. That could be a really good conversation. This thread is *definitely not* about disrespectfully attacking anyone's opinion. No thread here is. And this forum is *most definitely not* about attacking any *person.*Maybe you didn't mean to make it personal - I did appreciate that you apologized to Tina about the mood swing comment. But your comment (also today) over on the Legion thread has me wondering. Trust me: that's a battle you can't win. Stick to movie opinions, and the people on this forum - including me - will welcome you and your thoughts.
