Very true and interesting article. :)

In light of HISHE, I particularly liked this quote:

Quote:

We have to imagine that if Mel Gibson were forced to play a role any more layered than that of the just and righteous warrior-king-redeemer, his face would melt off from the challenge, revealing the circuitry within.

He really is a robot!! I wonder if he shoots lightening from his butt too?

Nice one.

Who compiles this crap?
2001 at No1 - that's a bit harsh - it's 40 years old for Pete's sake! The world had gone from orbiting a small satellite to putting man on the moon just before this film was made, all in under 15 years - was going to Jupiter really that unrealistic?
Putting a fantasy tale at number 2 and a comedy at 3 is also a bit off. Why not include Austin Powers in that case?

If 2001 was on the list, then 10,000 BC deserved to be there, if not 1984. How about The Day After Tomorrow? I definitely saw that before yesterday, so that must be inaccurate too.

U571 wasn't on the list - and that really did re-write history - despite stating it was based on real events it had a disclaimer at the end in the UK pointing out that in fact the Royal Navy captured the first enigma machine codebook, I don't know if that disclaimer was shown elsewhere.

Titanic wrongly painted the captain as a coward for dramatic purposes. To make up for that, the film that made more than $900 million gave $6000 to a primary school near where the captain's grandson lives.

Plunkett and MacLeane was a good contender for the list if it hadn't been purposefully incongruous.

Need I mention Robin Hood or even the words "I am Spartacus?"

Let's be honest even in todays age of modern technology, we still aren't 100% sure of what ever one has said or done...besides the glaring impossible ones...I don't think that we can say for sure things never happened and in that sense give movies the benfit of the doubt.

Yeah, sorry, I think I went off on one there. I think it was mention of Mel Gibson's Patriot which was a Brit bash too far.

But I stand by the historical inaccuracies of U571, Titanic and Robin Hood - I mean putting up wanted posters for illiterate peasants, c'mon!
This list could be a lot longer....

I thought that that article was really, really funny. The only thing that bugged was the order of the movies, if they reversed the order it would be much better. I agree with Jamesbloke that the choices for 3,2 and 1 were a bit ridiculous. I think that Gladiator deserves spot number 1.
