WOW is all I can say.

Do TV movies count as actual movies or just extended episodes?

CTALONS's picture

I saw the trailer and I got to saw I really don't like the animation.
My feeling on it is that if you are going to go with cg you have to match Pixar at this point otherwise it just looks like a cut scene from a video game.

linkedtoxbox's picture

IT does look like a different style.
I don't think it was meant to be like a pixar ultra high quality.

Something different that will be another way to tell the story.

There is a live action tv show coming out next year, that will have the high Q FX.

CTALONS's picture

You can only make some many 'clones' of something till what is produced is just a weak sad image of what was...I think we have reached that point.

linkedtoxbox's picture

Just saw it!

DON'T SEE THE FILM!

It's a waste of time at the movies.

There is NO emotional connection to the characters,
The fight still make clone troopers look dumb still,
The jedi are way over rated,
The plot was over a trade route which is so under par with the rest of the movies,
The jedi on jedi fights are boring,
The vocie acting really dry,
The animation was good, but only next next gen good.

1/5 Only because the movie has STAR WARS in it.

If you want it, it's only worth the download, and that might just mean the trailer only.

Opening weekend and there was only 4 ppl in the theater. LOL

Well, to tell you the truth I think the first original three (and by that I mean 4,5, and 6) were the best. I didn't really care for the Phantom menace. It had a horrible alien language. Annoying Charachters like JarJar and the flying green dude. On the other hand some scenes were good like the final battle with Darth Maul.

Now about the clone wars. Wasn't there a Clone wars TV show that aired on Cartoon Network when Episode 2 came out? I think there just trying to bring it back with new animation, and I guess they think it will be a bigger hit because of the feature film....Surpsingly I dont think it will work :o

linkedtoxbox's picture

Here it is...

There is a TV Series that was called Star Wars: Clone Wars.
This had 2 'seasons' that was actually only 2 dvds.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars:_Clone_Wars_(TV_Series)

The Movie that just came out is Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Which is the movie. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars:_The_Clone_Wars_(film)

The movie is for the promotion on the TV series Star Wars: The Clone Wars
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars:_The_Clone_Wars_(TV_series)

THe first one was cool, with the 2 DVDS, THe movie was so bad. Great graphics, but a Horrible Horrible story with NO emotion. So typical of Lucas Art lately. I don't know about the tv series. I hope it's good, but considering its made already, they can't use the horrible horrible feedback the movie will bring.
Which is out on the 3rd october, and there is about 100 eps.

Lol, Just went on the forums on the Lucas Arts page, and gave that review. I wonder if it will get removed.

Ha, yeah it's fun to make people find someone doing something surreal, lol

CTALONS's picture

To be honest, I think people should go out and see this movie.
As a big Star Wars fan, I hated the prequels...and there are a ton of reasons.

Why then would I say see the cartoon version?
Because, unlike the sequels you are goign to get exactly what you expect.
Tons of battles and a storyline that is fitting of the cartoon experience.

It is a gulity pleasure plain and simple, and with that understanding you can watch it and enjoy it for what it is.

linkedtoxbox's picture

Worth Seeing?
Let me expand.
I lol that we have swaped points on this film.

There are Spoilers

Come on: No major character is killed of course!

Reasons:
There is NO emotional connection to the characters,
(No drama involved with their welfare and no reason to care about them)
The fights still make clone troopers look dumb,
(Running away from cover with a ranged weapon, to fight another ranged enemy)
The jedi are way over rated,
(Jumping tall buildings in a single bound)
The plot was over a trade route which is so under par with the rest of the movies,
(Why do I care? The only point of drama in the film was if the Republic could use the spacelanes of the Hutts. That was it.)
The jedi on jedi fights are boring,
(Try something new, Turn off the lightsaber with the force, if they jump towards you, use the laws of physics and force pull them past you in the wall behind you!. Something new come on!)
The voice acting was really dry,
(Oh No we are all going to die, oh look we lived. Blah Blah Blah.)

Why it was ok:
The animation was good.
(It was a new approach and it worked well)

1/5 Points only because the movie has STAR WARS in it.
The fight up the cliff was good, but stupid. If they can fire up they can fire down, NO AA guns were there either. The driods were silly and that also made them a very weak threat. What is it with Star wars movies having a horrible story and great graphics? KOTOR 1 was brillant, it's story was great. I would have rather seen that at the movies, then this. I seriously felt I wasted my time watching this film.

CTALONS's picture

linkedtoxbox, LOL, yeah, but I still hold to my feeling on it and do agree with what you say, but my position is changed because I have acccepted this movie for what it is...a sugary non-nutritional treat for kids and adults who liked the nostalgia of the old treat that was once good for you but now is filled with artifical sweetners.

I loved the orginal trilogy, but hated the new one.
I was told by reviewers that I just hated because I remember it as a kid, and that it is a kids film.
This new cartoon film, makes my point that no the prequel was not the kiddie film that I was making too much out of and now as an adult could not appericate, this film is. And I can accept it, but no, the prequels was suppose to be star wars, this is just a Saturday morning cartoon variant of star wars, and I can aceept it and enjoy it as that.

The orginal clone wars cartoons on DVD, orginally on cartoon network are great though and a must see. Not super graphics, but with the spirit of star wars.

Bliss's picture

It seems as if they only made this movie because the hype of "Star Wars" is
All together loved. I can't go to the store without seeing the monthly $8 issue of Star Wars magazine. They also are always authors writing a new star wars novel. Then of course there is that running gag in cinema of the geeky kids being huge fans of Star Wars. I think thats why they wanted to make a new movie so much, probably for the fans.

linkedtoxbox's picture

I understand what your saying now.

I was expecting a brillant story, since seeing the great story of the dark knight.

I guess star wars now is nothing more then a kids cartoon.

It's like star wars has lost its brillance and is now just a cash cow, milked to death.

Your right, the orginal cartoon Clone wars, was very cool, esp the clone arc troopers.

The orginal was always the best. There was a drama and story. Now there is just a children's cartoon void of any emotion and plot.

CTALONS's picture

The problem I and everyone has is that it was the creator's doing.
If for example, Lucas had said, "I am going to let someone else take control start to finish", then even if we hated it, we would feel better that it didnt really connect to the orginal in the way, the new Batman movies aren't diminished by the old ones.

linkedtoxbox's picture

Totally Agree, with the Batman Point. If anything the movies being that baddly done, has inspired the lastest set of movies to greater heights.

Different director, different result. If Lucas handed over the reigns, then it could have been a reason to blame someone else. Saddly we can not.

Have we simply grown up, Or was the story not that well concieved? (For the Eps 1-3).

If you have read any of the comic collections there were some brillant stories. Even the KOTOR game 1 was brillant!

Got to wonder. What makes a story good, and what makes one GREAT?

Tina's picture

I saw it and would kind of agree with both of you. I was probably overly kind in my review, but I did view it as almost a kid's movie in a world I know and love. Its a very average movie, with a shallow, unimportant plot, but I think my expectations were similar to CTALONS, so I was able to let some stuff slide.

I definitely agree that some of the acting is stiff (especially Kenobi, as I mentioned). Mostly it was the Padawan that made me want to bang my head into the wall. How is it that Lucas (and his band of writers) don't know how to write immature characters in a way that doesn't make you want to shoot yourself?

Daniel's picture

my question is, with all the remakes that do take place in our day, when lucas dies, will someone ever REMAKE Star Wars? or is the series THAT untouchable?

I'm starting to think it's time... time to let go, so we can be stoked about the remake :) it's probably a 40 year plan, but who knows, maybe it's worth it? :)

linkedtoxbox's picture

Remake the movie. It could be great. But because of the current series coming out it will be more likely over 40 years.

Timelining it out, How long ago was that horrible horrible 'Batman and Robin' movie? 8 years till a remake was made. So maybe even less?

If they remake Star Wars, why not try the Lord of the rings first?
That is more likely then trying to remake the orginal trilogy.

I think there a greater chance of a remake if the movies were a complete failure and the rest of the world of Star Wars was a small Fan boy community. But it is too big of a giant to do.

Just another thing about this movie.
What annoyed me with this movie the most, was the stupidity of the clones. Right for the first movie, they were retarted, but after 6 movies and alot of comics and games, they still are. It's like the feedback department collected all the advice, placed all the letters in a truck and drove that truck off a clift into a volcano.

With the lastest blockbuster movies being grounded in reality, it is so beyond my 'suspension of disbelief', to think that clone troopers and esp Commandos would not use cover. I can stand the rest, but that is the staw that broke the back. While Little red death gets annoyed with immature characters I get annoyed when reality loses all meaning in combat.

This movie didn't try anything new or orginal. It does seem once we get past one whinny pain they make a new one to co star. 3 Stars was Very Very kind.

There has only been 2 fan films of star wars that i have seen that takes the world as an actually possible reality. IMPS and Wrath of the mandorlorian. It can not be that difficult to make a movie for kids and adults. Sherk 1 did it, Pixar do it every movie.

I guess i'm just sad to see the once proud beast of Star wars, become a children's play thing covered in drool.

Halo3Legend's picture

So this movie is the link to the TV cartoon right?

linkedtoxbox's picture

yes it is the big bang to start the tv series off.

its good to know that ahsoka will die after episode 3
its really embarrassing how they put her character into this movie..
she seems to come out straight of an anime.. like sailor moon
and the comments between skywalker and her are really bad.

not worthy

Bliss's picture

Remakes aren't always the best, sometime a movie is just to much of a classic to change. See my thread The Day the Earth Stood Still. A few of us didn't like the idea of a remake.

Also, Directors of remakes seem to add to many of there own ideas, that ruin the original concept.

Ya I agree with all of you, the movie was pretty childish and the only reson i saw it was because my brother wanted to see it for his b-day. It did though amuse me slightly because of its simplicity such as the mentioning of that trade route like 15+ times or the many times they stated the obvious. Another thing i found amusing was that almost every character looked like they went to a barber that specialized in molding play-doh. But my little brother enjoyed it and that "watermelon with a tail"(i forget that little hutts name) amused him so I conclude that it was indeed made for a younger audience.

Bliss's picture

SPOLIER....POSSIBLY

So in this movie I hear that Jabba the Hut has a kid, and since this takes place in between Attack of the Clones and the Revenge of the Sith (right?)
this all takes place before the first original 3 they made. So are we supposed to imply that Jabba the Hut's kid IS THE Jabba the hut in the first original three?

Possible Spoilers...I guess

The thing that bugged me the entire time for this movie was that we see Anakin get a padawan and make a personal attachment to her, but we are expected forget Episode 3.

1. Anakin doesn't have a padawan in episode 3
2. Anakin is supposed to be leaning closer to the dark side after episode 2 (as also shown in the 2003 animated Clone Wars television series)
3. Anakin PERSONALLY kills a lot of Jedi, Padawan, and Younglings in Episode 3

So there is likely possibility that Anakin would wind up MURDERING his padawan. Actually, that kind of makes me smile.

yes i agree with whiffleball does he really kill his padawan and if so why is she just standing there and not fighting i mean if she knows all of his moves she could kick his a$$

Remakes of the originals?? Are you kidding me?! The originals are fine, infact they're even better than the prequels! I personally loathe the prequels, for three important reasons.

1) The overuse of CGI, to the point where it's the only thing you see. Might as well watch the documentaries. (Well, at least he finally made an entirely CGI movie)

2) The dialouge is probably one of the worst I have ever seen (other than the movies directed by Uwe Boll, *shudder*), the whole love story between Padme and Anakin is hollow. Plus, Haydens acting is rather terrible on my part.

3) The prequels promised too much, George promised that they will be as good as the originals, and better. They weren't, not in the slightest.'

So the only thing I can see in a remake are these.

1) LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS of CGI.

2) Some pretty bad acting.

3) Terrible dialouge.

Just wait for the live action TV series, i'm sure that'll be close enough.

Whats the point of remakeing great movies?
Do people not understand WHY YOU ARE REMAKEING A MOVIE In the first place?

Of course they want more CGI in it, just like the last 3 they made...they where not absoulotley terrible....but in fact the CGI made them more "Cheesy" Then the original....the original had some of the best specile effects for that time, and that made them classics.

Clone Wars seems to be part of the Extended Universe (or EU), which Lucas claims isn't part of the "canon" universe (which is pretty much only the movies, and the novelizations of the movies).

Therefore, the Clone Wars cartoons didn't happen in the canon Star War universe.

Sure it's for little kids-- it's a CARTOON, hello? I just question the values it teaches them, compared to the movies: i.e. that it's cool to be an obnoxious, impetuous, disobedient, big-mouthed little smart-ass who upstages and disobeys their elders. (Meanwhile, Anakin paid a heavy price for his disobedience).

Such pandering to kiddie-audiences is based on a common misconception, however, that kids like kiddie-characters, more than they like adults; two words: WESLEY CRUSHER.
OTOH, more successful kiddie-characters like Johny Quest inevitably had positive role-models like Race Bannon and Dr. Quest.
