HAS ANYONE SEEN THE NEW TRAILER!!!
IT IS AMAZING!!

This movie no doubt will be excelent!

Trailer looks bad ass, but I'm getting the impression that it might deviate a lot from exisitng Star Trek Cannon. .... ughhhh I feel like such a nerd saying that.

Speaking of trailers, I saw the star trek trailer before Quantum of Solace, and it rocked in a nerd boner kind of way, but did anyone else think that Watchmen took a huge step backwards with their second trailer. It looks like they only have filmed a total of 20 minutes of footage and they were really struggling to put something new/interesting in the new trailer.

Isn't this an odd numbered Star Trek? Doesn't that mean it is destined to be rubbish? (the motion picture, Search for Spock, Generations and Insurrection case in point?)

PS the "original dude" (Nimoy) is also in his film - I'm sure he would be flattered by you comment though.

They've been done with filming for a while...

I took about 25 screenshots from the trailer... here are a few... if you want more, I have more I can post:

I thought I came up with that theory! Generations was great though.... and that was an odd one... the only exception to the rule though... I guess Nemesis made up for Generations...

Well, great minds must think alike, or something.

And for the record, Generations blowed and sucked.

BLASPHEMY!!!!!!!!! I saw Generations when it came out... the first Trek movie I saw in theatres.... I practically hold it as a standard for Star Trek... and I'm afraid J. J. is going to dissapoint...

Darn! you beat me to posting it first!
anyway this looks like it'll be a very good movie. i mean, the old ones were ok but the special effects made me barf, even though it was in the 70's. looks like they emproved the blasters and stuff to look like actual lasers instead of little red orbs. ships looks good, effects look good, actors look,,, ok... except for kirk... yeah, i had to agree with daniel that he looked a little to young. but hopefully the awesomeness of the film will make it better :D Spak (how do you spell it? im not much of a star trek fan) looks very good too. you know what makeup can do these days. maybe before i see it i should catch up on some of the original star trek episodes so ill understand it when they say, "power up the quantum 4 ray intulrectular mechanican revolvafier to fire at the enemies 3 well shield combusters so we can infultrate the ships force field projectiphier rays"

slightly different star trek trailer with old spock

I have no doubt that J.J. will be able to deliver a storyline that is equal to or greater than any previous Trek film. But I also have a feeling it's intended to be different so that it can stand alone as well as fill the gap between the "enterprise" series to the original series. I'm personally fired up about the movie.

Things I hope the movie does and doesn't do:
I hope they focus purely on Spock and Kirk and leave out the "introduction" of every original character. It looks like they are all there, Scotty, Bones, Sulu, Uhura. I don't want to see young versions of every person choose to join the academy.

I hope they don't travel to the future by flying around the sun and that ends up being the reason Leonard Nimoy is in the movie.

I hope they don't do anything that has to do with whales

I hope Kirk isn't a loose cannon so much that it's just ridiculous. Like ending the movie with Kirk and Spock standing in some office with some Admiral shouting at them for being so wreckless, yet they managed to save the day, so gives them medals and their own ship called the enterprise.
NO BadBoys 2 in Space!

and

I hope they don't have tons of flashbacks that always end with the SAME PLANE CRASHING sound effect from Lost. :)

Other than that I'm kind of open to where ever they go with it.

Jamesbloke's picture

Ha! I am so going to laugh when that happens. Have you got time to do a HISHE Star Trek before it comes out?
Anyway, Star Trek wasn't about Kirk and Spock, but the holy trinity of Kirk, Spock and McCoy. With Spock & McCoy representing the extremes of cold logic and compassion respectively.

But enough of the idle chit chatter - new clip

This trailer looked more over-the-top than "Over the Top."
If you wanna see something similar, watch the beginning of "Goldmember" where they show the "Stephen Spielberg" version-- we've got the Tom Cruise Kirk, the Halle Barry Uhura, the John Travolta Spock, and the Danny Devito McCoy.

And just like the Spielberg verson, this film lacks the one thing that made the series a hit: Kirk's MOJO, baby!

Freaking Entertainment Weekly... I was just in a waiting room flipping through an ish and i saw this article that totally gives away a huge plot twist about Star Trek... but they did it in a way... like they're not going to tell you, but also in a way that anyone could figure out.

I hate EW now. I've tolerated them for a long time, but no more... I hope the editor and article's writer get a wicked papercut.

Bliss's picture

Hmm I seem to have put a period after Star Trek, thats awfully strange.
I dont think I have ever done that.

oh my...

Ok... so the new trailer... is outrageosly epic... I was worried with the previous trailer and the superbowl spot... but, that trailer relieved any doubt I had... I've been a Trek fan since I was little... and a J. J. Abrams fan since Alias started...

I don't know why I was worried... all i know is how awesomely fan pleasing that trailer was... YEAH! Ok... I'm going to watch it again...

I really loved this movie. I think the plot was a genius way to push "reset" and allow Abrams to start over with the same great characters.

Possible spoilers

But it upholds the existence of the old shows with the presence of the Old Spock. Basically, it all happened, but now there is an alternate reality. Brilliant.

What did everyone else think?

Daniel's picture

If anyone makes a drinking game out of every time you see a lens flare in this movie, they will die within the first 15 minutes.

Most Lens Flares in a Movie EVER :)

I loved it completely! I consider myself a sub-trekkie because I've kept up with the series enough to know my way around but I don't have the whole thing memorized. I thought the movie was really enjoyable. The constant nods back to the original series (and other star trek series as well) are very well written in. From dialog to the red shirts getting killed first. I was smiling many times throughout the movie.

Bones is my favorite. Karl Urban nailed his character, as did everyone else. Spock (Zachary Quinto) is awesome. I love the slight Shatner impressions Chris Pine throws in every once in a while. it was just right. Not only does the cast re-ignite the old show, the action in the movie is really exciting. There were moments when i actually found myself thinking "Man, if only episode 1,2,&3 took this visual step... *sigh*"

I really hope they continue making more of these.

gilinator5000's picture

Two words: LOVED IT.

isaac5's picture

wow i didnt know everyone was pumped enough to see this on the first day

i knew it would be on my birthday but i copleteley forgot that it came out today

LetsGoBuffs's picture

Dude, this movie was amazing. I wouldn't even call myself a Star Trek fan...but it was wonderful. I totally enjoyed it. And mad props to Michael Giacchino for an awesome score.

BTW, I'm in love with lens flares, so that was terribly exciting for me. :)

SPOILER: Can you believe Kirk didn't get it on with any alien spacebabes? I thought he was going to find one on that cold planet, but all he found was Old Spock. NOT a spacebabe.

Tina's picture

Well, he did ALMOST do it with a green chick. ;)

So...speaking of lens flares...why would a director choose to use so many. I'm assuming its on purpose, so why??

gilinator5000's picture

It's more realistic for space. No UV filters from the atmosphere. Also, the sunlight is more intense in space, that's why they have to wear reflective visors on the spacewalks. That's my guess.

Daniel's picture

I was gonna say I think it makes the environment feel way more realistic too. Not just in space though, but anywhere.

isaac5's picture

OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!
