I can't lie, the movie was entertaining and the perfect length for this kind of action thriller. Liam Neeson was a force you could cheer for. Although it was anything but perfect or appropriate, but I give it 3 out of 5.
you don't watch enough TV Tina :) the commercial they play every 15 minutes says "trafficking" and gives that portion away. I feel the later commercials killed the excitement of the story for me on this one, although I do like Maggie Grace. I don't care what yall say :)
Comments:
I have to disagree
Normally I agree with most reviews, and while I don't think this movie will qualify as a five star citizen kane type flick, I think it should have scored higher than a three.
Spoilers
I thought it was failry apartent that his daughter was high/strung out when she was being auctioned off and therefore affected by drugs, and I'm not sure I understand what you mean about his string of good luck. Are you referring to the leads he kept picking up on his way to finding his daughter or his luck in the fighting? If it's the later, the only time he got lucky was when he was about to get hung/chocked out and the pipe breaks (unless i'm forgetting something).
I do agree that there was a happy suggary ending which was a bit unrealistic considering that the best friend was killed and probably raped, but concidering it was advertised as hard hitting action movie if they had gotten too indepth into the human trafficing the appropriate amount of drama probably would have come off as heavy handed and probably disrupted the flow of the movie.
Taken
I agree with your points biglazy, especially about how this type of movie could NOT effectively deal with the human trafficking issue without ruining this type of movie. That's what made it hard to review...because in a way, I understand why they did what they did.
I'm glad you spoke up though, because I think a lot of people will like this movie (and I did, I think I just got turned off by the ending - as you can imagine, those kinds of things stand out to me). :) Anyway, I thought it was a really well paced, exciting movie.
SPOILERS:
Honestly, the movie would probably gone up an entire star if they had dealt with the ending differently. Drop the pop star stuff at the end. That was just insulting really.
As far as his luck, my husband would agree with you that the pipe breaking was the only one that really seemed "lucky" to him. Although it didn't really bother me alot (I expect that kind of thing in this kind of movie), I found the movie to be riddled with luck. He always finds exactly what he needs when he needs it. Like the reflection in the picture, like the jacket, like getting the EXACT right person to say "good luck" in a room full of at least 5 guys.
Taken
well, the first time I saw it my friend was with me. At the end of the movie, I told her I thought the movie was moderate. My friend said she was scared stiff because all during the movie, she was thinking how the daughter or the daughters friend couldv'e been her. ( her dad just retired from being a CIA agent) Then she said how things like that easily happened to people related to CIA agents.
it was a great movie. ok
it was a great movie. ok that girl run like a retard XD but everything else was great, you can't give the same amout of star to this great movie that you gave to a stupid very dumb u im a vampire in the sun vegeterian movie twilight =/
reviews...
So I'm Tina, and in some weird way, I love that you disagree with me. I love discussing movies and think dialogue only makes them better. So please, always comment whether you like what I wrote or not. My brother also disagrees with me regarding this movie, but I'll tell you what, I didn't watch Taken and compare it with Twilight. I'm not a comparison review writer. I take into consideration what the film maker was trying to accomplish and how well I think they pulled it off. I'm not going to compare 2012 to Where the Wild Things Are, because that's just silly. Yes every movie gets some kind of grade on production value and acting, but obviously UP! is trying to do something that Transformers 2 is not. That's just how I view movies, right or wrong. I may be harder on something awesome because I think it could have been even better, and more lenient on something less amazing because its ambitions were smaller.
This is also a great time to mention that if you are a registered user you can rate the movies I review as well and an average user rating will be displayed below my rating. I am never so confident to think my opinions are the opinions of the masses. ;)
4 Stars. Mr. Neeson, I salute you.
Very good, entertaining movie. Liam rocks in it. Personally I think he's a lot cooler than Jason Bourne, just because he also has a good character. For me it was a one-time-watcher (Even though I managed to watch it two more times, for some reason).
5 stars all the way
well I do agree the pop star thing was excessive if not a little silly. However, I think it was trying to bring back the girl's innocence, to try and resolve the issue of everything she just faced and show I guess that she still had a future thanks to her dad. And Liam did put a huge dent in the traffickers operations at least in France. But his goal wasn't to take on an entire criminal industry, it was to get his daughter back. I guess you could also say that the ending was showing how we'll all go back to our materialistic lives while all this garbage is going on in the world. In that sense it conveys a very powerful ending, that we do nothing to stop it. But I guess its how you interpret it. I am a huge Luc Besson fan boy so in my eyes he can do no wrong (except get other directors to do movies he should do). And the whole idea of her being pure was that she was worth more to them. They could auction her as a pure girl to the highest bidder because there are some rich nasty men out there that would pay extra for a pure girl. I thought the movie made that clear, but I guess not. But all in all, compare this type of movie to Commando. Is commando over the top and stupid at points? Yes. Is commando still a freaking awesome movie simply cause it has Arnold, YES! But as an action movie it accomplished everything it needed to and there is nothing more rewarding than seeing Liam jab electrified prongs into a sex trafficker and watch him suffer. Also no comment on the unrated version?
