I liked the film... but I don't know if i want to ever sit through it again. Not for a long time anyway. It's got the pacing and story telling of 2001 Space Odyssey which is interesting, but still brutal at times.
But does that mean it's a bad movie? I think that's part of the controversy with There Will Be Blood. It's a VERY well made film, meant to be slow, make you think and really understand, and feel like you experienced Daniel Plainview's life. It's not made to rock the box office. It's an artist's movie I guess you could call it.
But Does that make it a good movie? I think it was too well made to say it was bad.. there are a lot of BAD movies. There Will Be Blood was boring, not bad. :)
Did anyone else see it? Did anyone else want to grow a sweet handlebar mustache afterwards? I think you are wrong about only winning one award though, Tina I bet TWBB walks away with a few awards just because of the type of film it is.

Oh, I know. :)
And you're right, this is by NO means a bad film. It was just hard to enjoy...if that makes any sense.
I think there are a lot of "art" films this year that were better enough to give it a good run for its money though. Here's me rooting for the Coen brothers over PTA!! :D

The Onion has a great article this week about how the similarities and differences between the movie and "Oil!", the book.
I was pretty surprised to learn that, aside from names and a few events, the book and the movie are really very very different.
Here's an excerpt from the article:
"Possibly the biggest surprise for There Will Be Blood fans who haven't read the book, though, is that the film's protagonist, oil man Daniel Plainview, isn't the villain. In fact, while Sinclair shows him to be as bad as any in the oil trade when it comes to stifling the workers, buying off the government, manipulating and browbeating the media, and bribing everyone in sight, he's left as a somewhat baffled and sympathetic figure, wily as hell but forced to such awful measures by a corrupt and corrupting system. Over and over, he points out that while he might like to be more honest, he just can't afford to be. If he doesn't mirror the behavior of the big oil conglomerates, they'll eat him alive. Try to imagine the film's protagonist (played by Daniel Day Lewis, in a larger-than-life, Oscar-winning performance) offering up such excuses for his behavior. Or any excuses, really."

I love this shirt... especially after the sketch that SNL did on the Tina Fey episode.

There Will Be Blood
so i get 5 free rentals a week at blockbuster where i work. We get the dvd of There Will Be Blood in tomorrow. Is it worth the free rent even tho I am currently trying to catch up on lost season three and rescue me, which has been using all my rentals lately.
Also 2 thumbs up to your guys reviews. Helps me sound half way next to smart when recommending movies because my high school film class only taught me so much.
There Will Be Blood
Well, I PERSONALLY love LOST, so I suggest you watch that if you feel like you can catch up on the rest of season 3 and the start of season 4 before the season finale of this year. If not, there's no big rush and you can watch it over the summer.
And, yes, you probably should rent There Will Be Blood. It's arduous to get through, but if nothing else, you'll get all of the little jokes about milkshakes and abandoning my boy that people throw around now. :D
What's the best thing you've rented lately? I think the best thing I've rented is Gone Baby Gone recently. Although Fido is at my house waiting for me so I'm pretty pumped about that one!
There Will Be Blood
Well i do watch a ridiculous amount of movie, working at blockbuster and all. But in the last couple of months the best movies might be across the universe, darjeeling limited, cashback, and no country for old men. But then again I would also tell you to watch the movie shoot them up if you wanted to watch an awsome movie with no point
There Will Be Blood
for lost, i kinda missed the most of the 3rd season, but i guess ill just watch the 5th and try to keep up, because it seems a little pointless going back that far.
