Thor was pretty much exactly what I expected. It was entertaining and action packed and Branagh definitely brought a certain Shakespearean class to the film that helped a great deal. But it wasn't spectacular and fun like the first Ironman or mind blowingly awesome like The Dark Knight, so as a comic book film it lands somewhere in the land of average to pretty good.FULL REVIEW
Comments:
It was ok.
I agree with you, It wasn't bad but not great. I personally i think they should had put valkyrie in the movie as thor's love interest.... also get rid of the red cape...... :p
red cape
dude the red cape is neccesary. more neccesary than superman's
**- I think 'Rainbow Bridge'
**- I think 'Rainbow Bridge' was the name for two relatively good reasons:1: Its always what its called in the main translation of the Eda-s (as far as I know) maybe 'Rainbow' had a kick-ass name in old Norse (Jöglendram for example) but it seems who ever translated it found it hard not to translate (Thank god Mjöllnir's name doesn't translate out to anything huh? 'Big rock that goes Umf' wouldn't sound so good).2: You seriously expect a race of super advanced beings who still use 'A big guy with orange eyes and a big sword' as their ultimate defence mechanism to have a sense of creativity? I'm pretty sure the main bastion in Asgard is called 'Main Bastion'. More on topic: Just personal opinion but this movie deserves 4.5 stars. Not because its superb, Kubrick beater or anything but because, as you said: Its pretty much what you expected when you go in. Most movies with all their selective trailer making hype themselves up to Olympus only to go back and set up a snack stand at the middle of the staircase. This movie didn't do that (or failed trying maybe) so for the first time in years (not counting pixar movies) I got exactly what I expected and that is commendable. Ather lenoro' sharanteh! (Ather's light guide us!)"Food for thought!"
I think its a good name
I think its a good name because in norse mythology the Bifröst or Bilröst was literally a "Burning Rainbow"This makes the name "rainbow bridge" pretty apt if you ask me..
A path to Earth
As for Thor finding a way back to earth Loki mentions to Heimdall that there's more than one way in to Asgard, so it shouldn't be a problem. Not to mention the fact that someone had to build the bridge in the first place and should be able to repair/rebuild it. Also for his love interest (if going by Nordic Mythology) it should have been Sif. Valkyrie I think was suppose to be one of Thors children, maybe not the best love interest for him, but hey its Marvel and there always changing there stories depending on the times :)Ehhh!!....details
Thor
Sadly because I missed the early veiwing times, I had to watch it in 3D. I'll say this: I HATE 3D but none the less, this was okay. This was really only one moment where the 3D felt nice and that was win they introduce adult Thor in the begining, as you follow him walking into the room. That was a pretty good looking moment. Other then that?....nah.That ChickMore awake then Jesus on the day of his Resurrection.
thor referencing avengers
great review but i feel your being a bit unfair to the marvel movies build up to the avengers, everyone who waited till the ending of the end credits of IRON MAN and saw samuel l jackson at the end as Nick Fury has been aware that iron man incredible hulk thor and captain america have been building to next mays Avengers it is unfair to use this as an negative being that since Thor is still alive at the end of his movie a sequel is almost inevitable anyway.
personally...
thor is one fo those movies that you go see at a three dollar theater. the battles are loud, but the rest is okay, i guess. not the best superhero movie ever (which, btw is capt. america) but decent.
Thor
Loved Thor. So much better than Captain America.
My opinion
Based on everything I've heard prior to the release of the movie, I thought it would be the second worst marvel movie (the first is pretty obvious). Honestly, it's in my top 3 marvel movies now. It's the first movie where I actually noticed the musical score. It sounded fantastic, and I thought the story plot was good. But like the review said, I don't really like the relationship between Thor and Jane. It doesnt seem real to me. On another note, best Stan lee cameo. :). And did anyone notice, later in the move when they are in the diner, a truck with no bed drives by outside?
Thor
Definitely in agreement with this review. I kind of feel like Thor has always been towards the bottom of the totem poll when it comes to comics, marvel or otherwise. This being said it exceeded my expectations simply by not being awful, in fact I rather enjoyed it ( though this may have had something to do with the ripped half naked dude ( :). Thanks for your reviews its nice to have someone out there willing to take a film at face value rather than expecting them all to be these masterpeices and then tearing them apart when they aren't

What could've been
In all honesty, i think they could have made more of an effort. For example, the only gods you hear about are Odin, Frigg, Thor, Loki and Heimdal (I don't know if there are any among Thor's companions who are gods, and if so major gods). It would have been more interesting if you had a feeling that there was more going on behind the scenes, and if there was more mythological references, nothing to obvious mind you, only something hinted at or a hunch in any direction. Also they could've made the aesthetics more interesting instead of having Asgard look like as dull as it does. I mean every wall or building looks the same without any detail or design. Also they could have made some distinction between Valahlla and the rest of Asgard. There is a differece, you know! Also they could've included Valkyries since they ARE called the daughters of Odin and are pretty important in Vallhalla. Besides, Joutunheim isn't just snow and ice, and there are more types of giants than the frost giants (rock and fire giants). Also, Odin didn't loose his eye in battle, he gave it up willingly to Mímir in order to drink from the well of wisdom. There are a lot of things about him which could have enrichened the story. Also, Thor isn't Odin's only son, he had two more of importance, Baldur, god of beauty, and Váli, who was made to avenge the murder of Baldur.
Ahh, well... I think I could rant about this forever. Well I am a sweed so theese stories are the ones I've grown up with. I doesn't really live up to the ideal.
BDW the rainbow bridge is called Bifrost (in modern swedish) and is the bridge that connects Asgard to tha other realms of Yggdrassil, the world tree. It is the nordic explanation of the rainbow. Not as flashy as in the movie. It IS however guarded by Heimdal, so thats right.
Major rant from my part, I apologize, but I want it said.
