There's a trailer on the official site:

http://watchmenmovie.warnerbros.com/

This may seem obvious to (hopefully) most of you, but anyone who hasn't read the Watchmen needs to... better to read it before the movie comes.

It looks like the movie'll be 2 hrs & 25 mins. I can't imaine how much they can capture in that short amount of time... odds are the whole pirate thing'll have to be cut, yeah? But, you know, as long as we get plenty of time with Rorschach I'm in.

Anyway... predictions? Interested? Scared?

Comments:

Ronin's picture

You are correct. The Black Freighter stuff has been cut and will appear as a separate animated adventure on DVD to be released around the same time the movie comes out in the theaters.

Predictions:
The older heroes (Night Owl II especially) won't look nearly old and out of shape enough.

The ending will be different (same tone, but not as ridiculous a threat)

Rorschach will not live up to expectations (I'm sure he will be awesome, but there's no way they can pull off someone as truly badass as he was in the comics)

That said, the Jailhouse Riot will probably be my favorite part of the movie.

The movie will be good (V for Vendetta, Sin City or 300 good) but not "OMFG, BEST MOVIE EVER" good. (I hope I'm wrong about this)

And to anyone who hasn't read it.. read it before you see the movie. There's no way the movie will be better and Watchmen is something everyone should experience.

I have the hardcover absolute edition (ran me around $70) and I have yet to finish it... it's a lot to take in all at once... excellently layered though... I really need to start reading it again to finish it...

Bliss's picture

It looks really good. It also looks like DC is really trying to catch up with marvel. Otherwise I hope I can find the graphic novel at the hastings in my town. 8)

CTALONS's picture

Simply the best trailer I have seen in years.

The new teaser poster is kick ass...

the trailer with the smashing pumpkins song gets me so fired up I'm afraid the actual movie wont live up to it's awesomeness :)

that new trailer gives a better idea of what to expect. I also can't wait to see it.

Dude, this IS THE movie of 2009.

Yep - it's the one I'm most looking forward to so far (well, Abrams' Star Trek, too).

Cap, I felt the same way about the first trailer with SP playing. Love that song. Here's an interesting blurb on that song being in the trailer (watch the clip!). I think the version in the Watchmen is different than anything I can find, though. Maybe it's live? If anyone has a handle on it, speak! 'tis your cue. ;)

movie looks awesome can't wait to see it first thing i will see when it comes out

SPOILER ALERT! in just about the whole post and defiantly the video. You can read this though if you read the novel

Well I read the novel. I finshed it about 2 weeks ago. So today I ended up on this video on youtube. kind of a dissapointment.

...this one of things I was anticipating the most. I just dont understand how they can do Ozymandias's plan with the earth. I thought the squid was crucial to the plan.Oh well...I still dont have any doubts this one wont be awesome. :(

I agree with the video that this isn't that big a deal. From what I have heard, Ozy's plan is basically the same except there isn't a squid. I read the novel and I was even a bit thrown as to why a giant squid was on the page. I read it again and got it a bit more, but for your average movie goer, it'll likely be kind of confusing.

I think I'm begining to know how all those teenage girls did for their little twilight movie...

isaac5's picture

isaac5's picture

*ahem* does eleven year old with no money mean anything to you?

ness's picture

no really but don't let that put you down, my comment was only a suggestion i'm sure someone esle here can answer your question

isaac5's picture

ok HAS ANYONE IN THIS TOPIC READ THE COMIC?

Bliss's picture

Yes. Best Graphic Novel I have read so far, and I just recently bought the film companian and "The end is nigh" T-shirt.

It's costing me a fortune.

isaac5's picture

Alright, I'll tell you but I guess it could be considerd spoiler, but not really.
If you don't want to chance it then just ignor whats below.

When the Comedian gets thrown of the window after being beaten blood falls on his smiley face. It's what Rorschach used when he begins his search to find why the Comedian was kiled.

I only used it as my signature because I like the design. I probably wont keep it that long after the movies out.

a spoiler free version of what Bliss wrote:

That's an interesting way of saying thank you isaac: "tell me, tell me, tell me... I can't believe you told me."

For what it's worth, nothing has been spoiled save perhaps the opening scene (and even then if you've seen the commercials...).

Though personally, Bliss, I would have been tempted to tell him it was just bean juice.

found this weird funny animation about the watchmen, a intro of what a saturday morning watchmen cartoon might look like, reminds of the old tv show teenage mutant hero turtules...awww childhood memories :)

http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/485797#

Bliss's picture

Dude, ness, that was the funniest thing ever. (I'm useing the term funny loosely) A Watchmen Saturday morning cartoon...almost seems inevitable...At first I was wonder who the heck that annoying voice was, then it turns out to be Bubastis! Figures they give the animal an annoying charachter.

I would probably watch that, except they completely ruined Rorschach.

So did anyone see the movie yet, or am i the only one who went opening night?
