This film was a phenomenal depiction of the graphic novel by Frank Miller. Stunning visuals with a simple but powerful story make this movie a piece of art.
300 is the fantastical account of the Battle of Thermopylae, where King Leonidas took 300 Spartan soldiers to face the monstrous Persian Army. It is established early that Leonidas and every other Spartan soldier is a warrior like no other; trained from the time they can walk. The story is told as a narrative and the whole film has a very fable-like feeling to it…possibly from the extensive slow motion. Each of the main characters has a sense of truth and strength about them that is unquestionable and makes the movie extremely powerful. While the movie might be considered a testosterone fest, I think Queen Gorgo offers the female audience a gorgeous force to be reckoned with.
This film is violent, beautiful, and mesmerizing. I’ve read some negative feedback on the film about its historical accuracy and while that might be true, I don’t think it bears any judgment on the film. This is an artistic impression and it genuinely gives the feeling that it is supposed to be a fantasy or a legend of what happened. Besides, I am happy to leave the sedative-like accuracy to movies on the History Channel. J
I don’t think this will come as a terrible surprise, but everyone dies…in slow motion. Seriously, the Spartan warriors put up quite an inspiring fight; however in the end they are over taken. Fortunately their devotion and the death of King Leonidas inspires Sparta to really go to war against Persia with its entire army.
