Things I loved about the movie

The Opening Shot:  All Indiana Jones movies fade from the old Paramount logo to a mountain peak of some kind for the first frame of the film.  I was really happy to see they kept with their tradition

Harrison Ford: He still rocks the hat and bullwhip.

(although he doesn't use the whip much) he still pulls off the look even 15 years later.

Hearing old sound effects:  When they threw the first punch I recognized that sound immediately.

Visual style:  Same with the sound, I love that they kept the same look of previous films, even though there were far more digital effects in this movie

Setting it in the 50's:  I like that they are moving forward with the timeline and Jone's age, not trying to pretend he's still the same Indiana

The Jocks VS Greasers:  That brief second in the cafe before the fight breaks out might be my favorite moment in the whole movie.

Shia LaBeouf wasn't annoying:  I was afraid Shia was going to be Lucas' "Shorty" from Temple of Doom all over again.

Instead his character is a perfect balance of funny and useful.  He fits in with the cast just fine.

Seeing Marion and Indiana again:  I loved that they brought her back, but we'll get back to that part later.

Cate Blanchett:  I think she's hot even in a fake russian accent

Now Things I hated

Fake Skies:  There are moments that scream green screen...

This made me really sad, because I feel one of the reasons Raiders is such a beautiful film (not to mention the 2 sequals after Raiders) is because they couldn't fake the sunset back then, you had to actually go somewhere and shoot it that way.  There are moments in Crystal Skull where the backlight outshines the sunset so much it almost made me embarrassed for ILM.

The Russians were not threatening:  What more can i say?

The villain should be a villain, not a tag-a-long that poses no threat.  The fight scenes were great, but no intensity was there. which brings me to the next issue.

No Blood:  You know how they Re-Released E.T. with digital effects which made E.T. way more realistic, but they also took the time to digitally remove the guns from the FBI agents?  I started thinking about that when i realized there is no blood in this movie.  Not that I need a blood bath, but Raiders of the Lost Ark has some Blood!  Indiana Jones shoots people!  In the HeAD!  This movie doesn't even let you see the bad guys shoot people, only hear the gun fire.

Love Story Was Weak:  I wanted more interaction between Jones and Marion.

The scenes where they were trying to make you feel giddy for the two and hope they hook up just didn't do it for me.  Where as in previous Jones movies there is a certain "charm" he has with the ladies, this love interest felt a little forced

and lastly...

I'm Not Into Aliens:  Where as every Jones movie has a supernatural portion to the story, Aliens are that presence in this film. Although I wasn't surprised that Spielberg and Lucas took the alien route, I felt it wasn't something you could relate to or feel nervous about when they got close to danger.  Being that Spielberg should know how to create suspense, I was really let down by the lack of in this movie.  Only because it was so different that the previous films we are used to.

So How Does It End?

Indiana Jones has cancer of the whip crack and has to fly off with the aliens like the end of Grease...it does really.  Go see for yourself! :)

Over all, I'm not at all upset that I paid to see this movie twice.  I think it's an absolutely wonderful family film.  It's completely different than all of the rest, but still feels very familiar.  And with the the passage of time taking place in this movie, I'm very anxious to see if they keep producing more Jones pictures since they seem to hint to passing the torch with Shia LaBeouf.  I give it a 4 out of 5
